We all joke about JET magazine’s famous “Beauty of the Week” feature but the truth is deep down most of us probably wouldn’t mind having our physical fabulousness celebrated in the national magazine. If that’s still a dream of yours, here’s your chance to make it happen because the mag is hosting it’s first-ever open casting call for beauties of the week this weekend.
Working with Real Housewives of Atlanta star Cynthia Bailey and male judge Q Parker of 112, JET‘s editor-in-chief, Mitzi Miller, will host a search in Atlanta for women who “embody the look and spirit of the ‘Beauty Of The Week.'”
“We’re not hosting an open call because we need more ‘Beauty Of The Weeks’ — we’re having an open call because we want to reach out to our readers and I want them to be aware of how JET is changing,” Miller told The Huffington Post. “It’s not becoming something that is unfamiliar, we’re just stepping up our game and modernizing it — so we’re looking for today’s beauties.”
Today’s beauties will still have to wear the customary bikini the featured ladies have been known for over the past 60 years so since the modernization won’t be coming in terms of accepted body shapes, maybe the mag will add a little variety by celebrating women with more natural beauty in terms of their face and hair, and highlight our gorgeous spectrum of skin tones.
If you’re not in Atlanta, news that the competition is only in the dirty south is a bit of a bummer, but we have a feeling if this first search goes well, JET will branch out to other hot cities like New York, Chicago, Houston, Miami, etc.—plus you can always submit a photo and bio online.
