The first thing that came to my mind when I first saw the shoes was
“Wow, somebody use to get their shoes jacked back in the day”
But to think slavery? I did not. It’s such a shame people quickly resorted to that term it desentized the word and underplay real issues where it will apply.

Yet just last Christmas people were fighting each other in malls across the country for some Nikes. Just because we couldn’t see THOSE shackles doesn’t mean they weren’t there.

I left the link for Scott’s inspiration behind the shoes in the last thread. It would help if that link could be posted here to give some context to the conspiracy theorists who insist upon believing that the Scott had sinister motives when designing the shoes. The shoes aren’t based on prison, slavery, or anything of the sort. They’re based on the 80′s doll and star of the animated series “My Pet Monster,” hence the orange chain.

I watched Entertainment Tonight yesterday night and they were able to interview a Black female and male teenager who both agreed that they would wear the shoes. Maybe they just didn’t know any better.

Nothing much happens accidentally in marketing. I can’t pretend to be dumb enough to excuse these shoes, especially with that blaring shade of inmate orange. These are for, or would have been for, young men, correct?

Jeremy Scott wasn’t thinking about black folks he made these shoes. Hence the blunder. So yea i think it was a little misguided as well. If these shoes weren’t meant to be worn then maye they would be profound. But what type of person wants to actually wrap a chain around their ankle? Also, slavery doesnt belong to black people. In fact it still exists in many other (modern) ways. The outcry should have been about the general wackness of the shoe.

While I wasn’t a fan of the sneakers I didn’t see them as racist. All too often folks get bent out of shape over non-racial issues, but then mum is the word when something actually racist happens.

these sneakers are no more racist than a pair of stillettos with an ankle cuff.
