I think ppl forget about the photoshop aspect of pictures. There is a site showing altered images next to altered ones…a lot of the women have love handles that have been erased to make the butt look bigger…oh like the girl above..her butt may be made to look slightly plumper…or the back curve is made to appear deeper.

I work out a lot…I think I’m addicted to the high that I get. I do it b/c it makes me feel healthy and strong. I’ve actually always had a bigger lower half but it is changing due to running more. I recently caught my reflection while doing a plank and got scared when I saw that my but looked a bit flat…lol…it was position though that got to my head. I didn’t know that I cared about butts until that moment. Needless to say, I have added more squats to my regimen.

I think that the body mindset varies based on the body that you have/had during your teen years. Since my behind has always been big, I’ve always wanted to make it smaller to avoid the male attention and fit into pants better (especially dress slacks…lol! those are hella hard to fit properly when you have a donk…I used to had those whiskers)

Whereas, I think someone who grew up as a beanpole will focus more on getting a bigger butt…now women that are really heavy and say that they dont want to lose their butt…hmm..it sounds like they are using the butt thing as an excuse not to lose weight…to each their own.

Ha! My roommate was on a quest for a bigger butt this summer. She would only come on campus to run around, and why? I don’t know. She already has a boyfriend, flat tummy, small waist, & big boobs. Attention whore indeed lolz. I tried to tell her to stop bc those workouts don’t work..working out only makes you lose weight. So I advised sit on her butt all day lol. She went on about fat and muscle blah blah but if people took an anatomy lesson they would know that you need to have fat there first to turn it into muscle…so yeah lol. Can’t get a muscle butt o_O without fat there first haha

Nope, what I do with my body have nothing to do with men in general but for my liking/health. Now if they appreciate the way I look then hey…all cool with me. But I tend to like body types more on the curvy/voluptuous side anyway especially for my body. However I find it funny how men have all these restrictions on what is their ideal and what women should look like when they aren’t Adonis themselves…lol

I actually got into a debate with a black man about this magazine. He told me that “black men magazine basically went bankrupt trying to put black women on a pedestal by putting them on the cover of Black Men Magazine.” He said the magazine was sold to a “white” company who now controls the images on the cover and inside the magazine. He was trying to blame BLACK WOMEN for the failure of black men magazine under the ownership of BLACK MEN. Basically he was trying to say black women can’t sell magazines.

My reaction:

Ninja please! Ownership of the magazine might has changed but the DEMOGRAPHICS (hence the title of the magazine: BLACK MEN) is still the same. So the question is: Why exactly is this magazine prosperous with light/mixed women on the cover but it was supposedly failing when black/brown/dark skinned black women were featured on the cover if the DEMOGRAPHICS are still the same??? The problem here isn’t black women…the problem here is BLACK MEN. You morons would rather look at images of women that look NOTHING or almost NOTHING like you…than those who do, which is fine…just be honest about it. If that’s your preference more power to you…just don’t blame black WOMEN for ish you have full control over (i.e., the buying power over YOUR magazines).

The idiot looked like a deer caught in the headlights. It’s far too easy to point out their stupidity.

@chanela – That doesn’t surprise me or upset me. They are trying to appeal to the majority of their consumers. The majority is made up of white women. People like to see someone who looks like them and are more likely to buy the product when the advertisement features a white woman. What annoys me is that this shapely body type wasn’t admired by white women until Kim K. stepped out looking for attention.

Also, all the women on the cover are light skinned. That’s not a problem, but I wonder what the other women in those black male magazines look like? Is there a mixture of skin tones? I bet the majority of the women look like these women on the cover. And this is a product for black men by black men right?

I will be forever amazed that everything black women do that is deemed negative, the black man is somehow to blame. We live in a society where every other person has some sort of body image issues and we are surprised that black folks are negatively impacted.
I think on a subconscious level many of the people assigning blame seem to want to affirm that this so called body image issue is a “white people” issue.
