Exactly. That’s a ridiculous comment. There are actors who don’t get started until their 30′s. It was always they’re calling, but their journey there was longer.

Chiwetel Ejiofor & Don Cheadle are solid choices because they have the needed range for this dramatic rom-com. However, the character is suppose to be a 40 year old man, who’s lived life, but still has a lot ahead of him. Nate Parker & Michael B. Jordan are too young for this character. Denzel is too old for the character. It also has to be believable that the character is a ladies man / womanizer. I remember the 1983 remake with Burt Reynolds (one of his greatest performances), written by legend Blake Edwards. Reynolds was biggest star and sex symbol at the time. If Denzel was 10 years younger, then great. Going back to Common, there’s no denying his following & appeal. To fault him for starting his career in music first is ridiculous. You don’t have to pursue acting as a young kid to be taken serious. Heck, I had two careers prior to becoming a filmmaker. It doesn’t make me any less of a storyteller with visual style. Common is a seriously committed actor who’s consistently growing. Just look at his latest work in the feature Luv and on AMC’s Hell on Wheels.

Chiwetel Ejiofor is a God. He’s absolutely one of my favorites, since first seeing him in Love Actually. Terribly underutilized.

Geoffrey Wright. He’s an unorthodox choice, but he’s so good in any role that he plays. He’s so good that I didn’t realize for ages that he was the same guy that played Peoples Hernandez in ‘Shaft’ when I saw him in Syriana, ‘W’ (Colin Powell), and the most recent Bond movies.

Nate Parker also gets my vote. Good alternate choices!

Michael B. Jordan…. Hashtag delicious, hashtag awesome, hashtag I would love to procreate with him! But he’s a great actor that definitely needs more work! Would love for Shonda Rhimes to cast him in one shows.

Chiwetel Ejiofor and Nate Parker….oh yes *fans self* No to Common, sorry, he’s passable on ‘Hell On Wheels’, and for that he’s better suited for TV not film. But I think we need to promote some newer Black male acting talent…Denzel? Is this the 90′s? *yawn*

Also we need to stop employing rappers/singers in these acting roles. It’s bad enough there aren’t enough roles out there for Black actors to begin with, but to fill that void with a rapper/singer…that’s just lazy.
