Dear Adidas: Who Thought Shackle Sneakers Were A Good Idea?
It’s not April, but I really, really wanted Adidas’ latest sneaker, the JS Roundhouse Mid, to be a joke. All be it a bad joke, but still.
I mean, who thought a pair of sneakers with bright orange shackles was a good idea? I demand they tell us! Whose weird feet should we hold to the fire? Who?!
According to a statement from Adidas, we can place the blame for these fugly kicks squarely on shoulders of designer Jeremy Scott, who probably thought he was creating something amazingly dope, only to find folks calling him a racist. Which…the company totally denies.
“The design of the JS Roundhouse Mid is nothing more than the designer Jeremy Scott’s outrageous and unique take on fashion and has nothing to do with slavery. Jeremy Scott is renowned as a designer whose style is quirky and lighthearted … Any suggestion that this is linked to slavery is untruthful.”
While I don’t think the shoes are racist, perhaps Scott simply longed for the days of house arrest or chain gangs, or whatever very bad idea inspired these shoes.
I can see the tagline now: Be a slave to fashion! Buy Adidas!
(Now..that might be racist. But still. I just cracked myself up.)
Despite how horribly bad these shoes are, you know what’s worse? Some sucker is DEFINITELY going to buy a pair and rock them like it’s the first day of school. Shame.
What do you think of Adidas’ shackle sneakers?

These shoes seem like a safety hazard.
Agreed. Lol! Won’t be rockin’ em
Dey is just pissed that they will take longer to steal after they kill each other for them
Ew.
Ugly, hideous, and just fugly. They look like Sonic the Hedgehog shoes.
I don’t think they’re racist. I also actually like the design of the shoes, minus the slave anklets. I’m thinking people are simply offended because the irony of these shoes is hitting a little too close to home. Black people are still slaves to a capitalistic society that’s profiting from their stupidity. Don’t get mad cause they putting it in your face… Get smart and do something about it. But some fool is gonna buy these and Jeremy Scott is gonna laugh his butt all the way to the bank.
