She gave a pretty detailed account of what happened.*Which by the way almost never happens, an artist normally gives holes of a story that don’t even gel, especially when they have something to hide* I have more respect for her than I ever did, she keeps it real about a lot of things. Lesson learned. She compromised herself and she trusted someone she shouldn’t have trusted and when she felt herself compromising she should’ve stopped it right then. Yes she’s a little off, and weird, but I definitely realized when that came out *although I didn’t watch, the description was enough* that it wasn’t her normal vision. As she stated, even window seat had a message, it wasn’t salacious nudity for the sake of nudity. It was a protest, if you will, and while I understood then as I do now why folks were up in arms, i immediately “got it”. This is some sick white man’s vision of art, and honestly it does nothing but demean and disrespect. That’s something she has never done to herself through art. Soooo… I hope she knows who to trust now and to keep her vision staunchly clear to those she works with. She’s made enemies before, she’ll continue to make them, but always stand up for yourself and what you believe in mama, that’s what’s gotten you this far, and what’s made me a fan.

But why would she ask her fans and followers what they thought of it BEFORE, then follow up DAYS later with righteous indignation about it allegedly being released without her consent? Shouldn’t it be the other way around? She only had an issue after the video and her participation in it were criticized.

Also, even if there were other scenes that were edited out, based on what was shot (glitter, faux blood/semen, butt slapping, and full-frontal cooch), WHAT she did she think the dang finished product was going to look like?

I think Ms. Badu loses a lot of credibility when at first she seems to like the video and then later insults the director. If she is a true artist, she should be willing to stand by things that she likes, not stop liking them because other people think they are weird.

I didn’t think the video was that big of a deal. Most of us have seen vaginas before.

I totally agree. Modernism displays art as a mish mash of random (mostly unrelated) images. This whole situation stinks. If Badu agreed with the imagery when it was shot she can’t be mad at how it was chopped and put together. Even unedited those images wouldn’t make sense.

We all know that the negative responses that Ms. Badu received on the video prompted her to send Flaming Lips a very negative commentary on how she perceived the situation was handled. However, for some reason, I do not believe that Flaming Lips was the sole blame. I think that Badu was equally responsible for the way the video turned out, but thanks to the negative criticism, she made sure Flaming Lips received all the negative publicity because she is a wimp herself and cannot take criticism for her role in the video.

As an artist who has been in the business as long as Ms. Badu has, she had to know better than to have photos and video shoots of her (and her sister) be taken that opposed her principles. She should know that in showbiz, anytime a picture or a video of a celebrity is taken there is a tremendous possibilty that it will eventually released to the public. In other words, if they didn’t want anyone to see that garbage, then they should not have even participated in it in the first place! Disappointing….
