AKA is a talented artist, love him or hate him. Its amazing how we in such a hurry to talk down on artists when they start making it big instead of supporting our fellow Africans. #randomthought.

Agreed 100% mate!…

The homie AKA can’t please everybody but don’t even for 1
second compare him to M.I. or Naeto C or whoever else!
And BTW, I like both artists mentioned above, including many other
african artists such as Ice-Prince (1 of my fav’s) , Pro, Khuli
and even Camp Mulla etc.

But intellectually, lyrically, live performance and stage presence wise,
no1, I repeat, no1 in africa does it better. And I mean that!
But ey, once again, that’s my opinion.

Everyone has their own taste… But saying AKA is crap, arrogant, or
just simply comparing him to others is stupid. AKA is AKA,
and that’s it! Finish and Kla! Qha!

I love AKA’s music other songs like “Mistakes” and “Do It” that are on his Altar Ego album are dope too. Like Kanye West, AKA does appear “tooo arrogant” for people’s liking, but that’s what makes him an artist. “If you don’t blow your own horn, someone else will use it as a spittoon.” They all have their own character.

And yes! He can’t please us all. I also am a fan of M.I’s music, but don’t get how he even became part of this conversation. AKA uses a few vernacular here, and there but it still makes sense. His songs or performances might not be your cup of tea, but he’s going places like it or not.

I totally agree with @Matt_A_Taylor, artists only get mad love once they become international or big big… AKA is a rising star, and he’s rising big and fast.

I got nothing but love for music.

The writer asked for the readers opinon regarding the artist at the end of the piece, or did you miss that? I listened to the clips posted, opined as such and then listed the artist from South Africa that I love….I am aware Zahara sings gospel, however her cd Loliwe isn’t. Besides, we can mention other artist on the same thread without taking the limelight from the featured one, his fans are welcome to sing his praises regardless. Carry on.

Not my cup of tea but I say good for him, it’s good to see young African men doing well.

Now the newcomer that has taken South Africa by storm is Zahara. Her album(which is fantastic) went platinum in 13 days! She won 8 awards at the South African Music Awards and has had the honor of singing for Nelson Mandela at his home. Her music may not be popluar in the West, but I would highly recommend her cd Loliwe(and no am not a paid spokesperson…lol…just really excited about her talent)
