I agree 100%. I go to see my natural hair stylist at least once a month if not every two weeks and I love it. I always meet new women, talk about products, new styles, upcoming events, pray, sing and whatever else we did in salons growing up, minus the vaseline around my edges and the constant, “You burning?” questions!

More naturals should probably consider this too, so you can get a deep condition, and a good trim every so often. I’m seeing plenty atrocities out here with natural hair. Natural hair doesn’t mean dry, brittle and unkempt because you learned to do it yourself.

am I missing something? Aren’t there salons that specialize in natural hair? Don’t women go to the salon for reasons other than straightening?

It sounds like it’s time for black salons to expand their repetoires then. If our businesses want to keep up economically then they have to change with the tides.

Right… Maybe if beauticians would learn to style natural hair instead of trying to convince natural girls to get a relaxer, we’d go back to salons.

And then I hear so many horror stories about natural girls going to salons for a wash and the stylist giving them a relaxer instead, that I’m apprehensive about sitting in a stylist’s chair, but if that happened to me, there would be some smoke in the city. I’ve worked too hard and too long to grow the piece of healthy hair I have.

So right. I was just thinking–there are plenty of naturals who go to the salon. And please believe there will always be women who are dedicated to getting their “hair did.” LOL.

Are you joking? Moving to natural hair doesnt mean there wont be special occasional the might warrant some accessories or a good manicure or professional make up. There are lots of reason to go to a beauty parlor that don’t involve relaxer.

I think there will be a point that they become extinct unless they start catering to those with natural hair. But also, while the number of women with natural hair is growing, there are still many, many women who still relax their hair. While I may see one or two women daily with natural hair, the vast majority that I come across have relaxed hair
