It’s Back! Watch The Unwritten Rules Ep. 3 – ‘I Heard It Through The Cubicle’

Kim Williams and her team are back with yet another funny episode of The Unwritten Rules which takes a look at what happens when you’re the lone, black coworker.

Last time, Racey had to contend with her coworkers bothering her during her lunch hour and wanting to taste some of her home-cooking, and this time, she runs into yet another issue of her colleagues not respecting her privacy.

Will she crack under the pressure of being the lone black women in an office full of blissfully ignorant, and slightly offensive white folks?

Watch and see.

  1. i like the idea of this series but i don’t care for the writing.

i sort of feel like it needs more finesse and nuance. you know like artfully coming out and saying, ‘did this heffa…’ really? or, ‘oh hell no…’

i would add that, if someone has a personal call, it’s best to go outside and use your cell. you don’t know who’s listening around you. hell, your call might even be monitored by your company. some even regularly record calls. there is no privacy at work. best to remember that one.

  2. This is so true. Besides the whole “cubiclemate-listening-in-on-your-private-conversations” thing, I’ve often found my white female co-workers to be real open with their personal business. An ex-coworker of mine, who I am still very good friends with, told me her whole life story (including details of her messy divorce) within the first week of us meeting. In contrast, black folks are taught to hold our cards close to our chest, especially around white people, and not put our “business out in the streets”. LOL.

    • Yesssss! I worked with this one young woman (literally, we worked together maybe 5hrs a wk IF that) and for some reason she felt it best to inform me–and others–of each and every reproductive choice, birth control use or lack of it, pregnancy scare, and even the personal hygiene choices of her boyfriend….who ALSO worked there.

It has to be cultural. It blew my entire mind.

    • OH MY GOD! i have noticed that white people in general have no problem casually jumping into other people’s conversations. i was talking to my boyfriend on the bus about something and then this white lady comes in as if we were talking to her and we’re all homies or something saying ” oh yeah. its better if you just _______. thats what i would do” i forgot what we were talking about but she just went on and on and on.

it happens all the time when we take the bus and are near white people. why do they feel the need to do that when nobody is even talking to them!?!
