Memorable Movie Scenes, What’s Your Favorite?
The weekend is here, and I don’t know about you, but it’s usually the time when I catch up on my movie watching. From new films in theaters, to random flix on my Netflix queue, the weekend provides the perfect time for a little cinematic pleasure.
Over the years I’ve watched a lot of films. While some of my favorites include The Godfather, A Bronx Tale, Mo’ Betta Blues, and of couse, Love Jones, many others top my list. While my film choices may be diverse, they all have something in common: Memorable scenes.
Because it’s Friday I thought I’d take a stroll down movie memory lane to share a few of my favorite film scenes.
Let’s get it poppin’…
House Party – It’s hard to watch House Party and not want to throw your own jammy jam. While the entire film is hilarious, the dance battle between Kid and Play vs. Sidney and Sharane is just classic! I dare you to watch this sitting absolutely still. Can’t be done.
Angela Bassett’s closet clean-up/burning car/cigarette strutting scene from Waiting to Exhale.
Angela Bassett beating Ike and running across that freeway in What’s Love Got to Do With It?
Darius’s poem in Love Jones of course.
Airplane scene in Bridesmaids
Jill Scott hitting her husband over the head with a bottle in Why Did I Get Married
Last Scene of Mahogany-”I want my old man back”
Ditto on Angela’s Waiting to Exhale scene, Darius’ Love Jones’ poem, and last scene of Mahogany!!
Funeral scene in the second version of “Imitation of Life,” with Mahalia Jackson. Always love your mama…..
LOL @ Deep Blue Sea. I thoroughly enjoyed the acting and storyline, along with san jackson getting snatched by that shark. One scene that I always get extra quiet and attentive to watch is Diary of a Mad Black Woman’s dinner scene. She really gave it to Charles, and then threw his butt in the tub! That scene wouldn’t have been as good without the perfection that is Kimberly Ellis’s acting.
Purple Rain—
When Prince starts performing Darling Nikki after he spots Apollonia & Morris Day in the club. Apollonia getting emotional & running out, while Prince is crawling around the stage…priceless
The Color Purple: When Sophia comes alive at the dinner table. When Celie and Nettie reunite; from everyone gathering on Celie’s front yard to when she and Nettie call out each other’s name and run towards each other….I cry each and every time I watch that.
Steel Magnolias: The scene after Shelby’s burial when to lighten the mood Clariee offers up Quiser to be M’Lynn’s punching bag. Hilarious!
The Birdcage: The dinner scene when Val brings Barbara’s family to meet his. Hilarious!
I’ll stop there, I could be here all night!
