the first lady will have to combine the self described early in the 2008 presidential campaign as an angry black woman with the self we see now as an advocate for military families and children before she can become president.

as it is now she’s the epitome of the first lady being soft and feminine and accessible.

but to be president she will have to combine that image with one seen as presidential ( a woman not ruled by emotions ) and overcome the common image of black women being ratchet on tv or just showing T & A on magazine covers.

she will have to convince America she can do the job better than a man while still being a woman.

the first lady is free to do as she pleases because she is the first lady.

however, as has been documented by this site and major outlets for Black Americans is the fact the first lady has undergone a major transformation.

when she first set foot on the campaign trail and spoke about the first time she was proud of her country she was crucified by the right wing media who said she like her husband did not believe in American exceptionalism.

she was depicted in a cartoon with an afro and an AK next to her husband in hahj white and a turban.

from that initial depiction she has been made over into a soft frilly Black woman devoid of the anger that people tried to label her with and now full of smiles about her garden, healthy living, and initiatives geared toward the nation’s children and military famiies.

for her to run as President she’d have to return to more of her old self while still being soft and feminine than the self she is now.

remember hillary clinton’s new hampshire win, it was only after she cried. but when she got to Pennsylvania and was talking about shooting shotguns, hunting, and taking shots she didn’t make a dent in that primary.

Michelle Obama will have to balance both of herselves and show America black women can be more than the ratchet gold diggers you see on tv, the big booty models you see on the cover of magazines, and more than just a first lady.

i agree America doesn’t hold Black women in the highest of esteem… but we will not have a true muslim president before a black woman. this whole war on terror is just a rehash of the crusades from the Byzantine period and the target and goal is the same. spread christianity (and democracy) crush the other.

all the uproar over the similarities between Barack Obama and Osama bin Laden (the right wing slogan B.O. is a little more than B.S.) shows how not likely we won’t have a muslim president.

the mormon Romney will win first.

Our FLOTUS represents so many areas with great inclination. She is simply exquisite! I have much admiration for Mrs. Obama. If desired, iDo believe she could become President. However, I think that she is content with her role as the partner and supporter to her husband. Not only as the First Lady; but as any position that is support to her husband, she will perform well. She enjoys the role of mother to her beautiful daughters and serving her community. Pretty much she does believe a woman could become the POTUS, but not necessarily referring to herself.

I adore FLOTUS Obama as much as the next young woman, for a platter of reasons, but I would rather see a Black woman who has invested interest in politics become the President. Women like Eleanor Holmes-Norton, Donna Edwards…actually those are the only two Black women who I could think of whom I would actually vote for. If Mrs. Obama were to run, and win, I think that it would only be a matter of personality.

Love her for who she is and what she isthough.

I deeply admire Mrs. Obama; she is a phenomenal woman! I believe she’d lead this country to great heights if given a fair chance. Politics is so finicky, loyalty tends to shift rather quickly if people’s demands and expectations are not met within their time frame. She’d do well but I wouldn’t be surprised if polls show fluctuating support as they have for her husband……you can’t please all of the people all of the time. I’d vote for her, in my opinion she and Hilary Clinton stand apart from all the other first ladies.

That would be great! But it’s easy for her to speak her mind because she’s not the president. I’m pretty sure that President Obama would like to do so much more but he has his hands tied. Walk a mile in his shoes before judging him.
