Nas Gives Gwyneth Paltrow a ‘N**ga’ Pass
Oh, dear. The chorus of Gwyneth Paltrow saviors is growing, but this time, my boy Nas is adding his two cents to the list.
After Gwyneth got a little too up in her feelings about seeing her bestie’s husband perform his smash hit “N-ggas in Paris” and got a little too free with the tweets, saying she had just witnessed ”N-ggas in Paris for real,” many were both shocked and not-so-outraged about her comments. While many wondered how anyone could be upset about Paltrow’s use of the still-controversial n-word considering it IS the title of the song, others felt that she, nor anyone for that matter, should utter the word.
Russell Simons, Toure, and The Dream all came to Gwyneth’s defense, and now Nas has weighed in on the matter, telling CBS news he’d “slap the sh*t out of somebody for Gwyneth Paltrow.”
Who knew Gwyneth had such street cred?
Nas explained: “She’s the homie, she’s cool. Gwyneth gets a pass. Real people get a pass. We know what this sh*t is.”
Nas admitted that many don’t agree with his idea of giving certain people “passes” to use a racial slur (go figure), but he doesn’t care. Gwyneth is his homie, his ace, and according to Mr. Jones, “a real n-gga.”
“Some might not feel the same way,” Nas said. “Some of us will get angrier about it than others; but some people get a pass. The people that I know who are cool and real ni**as, Gwyneth Paltrow is a real ni**a, that’s my homie. That’s how I’m on it. Some people get a pass.”
As much as I love (like really, really love) Nas, I have to disagree with him. No matter how many songs she sings or millionaire rappers she befriends, Gwyneth Paltrow will never be confused for or be considered anybody’s “n-gga.”
I’m going to pretend folks aren’t buying into this foolishness that we’ve “reclaimed” the n-word and that any and everybody should be using it. No…instead I’m going to put Nas’ comments right along side his verse in “Oochie Walley“–in the folder marked “Things that should have never happened.”
I wonder if Gwyneth Paltrow was a white man……..
Would these rappers and faux intellectuals like Toure give a white men a pass for saying the N word?
*deletes all Nas songs from Ipod*
Nas needs to have a whole theater of seats. I wonder why NOBODY has covered that the problem wasn’t with the name of the song, but like Q-Tip said the fact that she said “for real” was the issue. Why doesn’t anyone want to cover Q-Tip’s pov? Either they should be fair or end the conversation once and for all.
I thought about that too. I’ve always observed that many people put racism past White women (they’re ‘minorities’ too). They just aren’t viewed as much of a threat as White men are. It’s historically obvious; as well as an indicator of how gender is perceived.
@Yb
No but he she were an Arab like DJ Khalid no one will say anyyhing. If I remember correctly Nas gave a shout out to all the white niggas in Foul Breeze. So there is precedence.
@Alexandra
If Sarah Palin said it what woulf be the reaction?
palin has confirme that has like a little ni@@a dick once in a while……
palin likes a ni@@a dick…….
I didn’t know Q-Tip had said anything about it! Clutch should def cover his view. He’s one of the more intelligent rappers, imo, anyway.
“As I said before,If Lay-Z,Beyacki,Coonye,and the Nightmare really are ni@@as who would know better than The Goopster”
LOL did you come up with those names? Witty!
Q-Tip is the only one.

The Dream,Russell Simmons, Toure ,Nas and other black men who wan’t to play Captain save a Becky it’s nothing new black women aren’t surprised
But then you have FLOTUS who is disrespected everyday do any of them say anything in her defense?
What really gets me is the fact that you will have black women support these people, knowing that these “boys”, “coons”, Big Jim’s on the plantation keeping the rest of the negras in line for Miss Anne, would never stand up for them. Some black women are Zombies.
Captain save a becky–that’s funny.
DAMN so true!
LOL! But so damn true. I’m trying to think of one that came to Michelle’s defense….nope, none.
are any famous black women coming out and saying it’s cool?
i’d like to see erykah badu, jill scott, et al weigh in. it could be interesting, esp. with erykah’s off the chain arse.
@Omg
Whoopi Goldberg defended Ted Danson when he did black face. She even defended Mel a Gibson. She defended Roman Polanski the convicted child rapist.
