I’m so thrilled for her. I’ve never had the pleasure of meeting Ms. Trethewey, but I know she is an incredible poet. What an honor to serve as Poet Laureate during such an historic presidency.

Wow this is amazing news! Congratulations Professor Trethewey!

I was fortunate enough to meet her twice at my university and give a presentation on a couple of poems from Native Guard, which is also more of an account of her parent’s history and interracial relationship (see the poems Miscegenation and Southern History). Belloq’s Ophelia is another great book of poetry, focused mainly on the prostitutes of New Orleans during the early 20th century.

I encourage everyone her to purchase/download a copy of any work by this poet. Even better, check her out at a speaking or poetry reading.
