It’s a sad day when a black man can’t even say “go down” without people claiming that it’s about sex.

That’s exactly what happened to President Obama when he met with supporters at an LGBT Leadership Council event hosted by his good friend Ellen DeGeneres. Making an innocent joke about how First Lady Michelle Obama beat DeGeneres in a push-up competition, Obama had this to say according to the White House official transcript:

I want to thank my wonderful friend who accepts a little bit of teasing about Michelle beating her in pushups — (laughter) — but I think she claims Michelle didn’t go all the way down. (Laughter.) That’s what I heard. I just want to set the record straight — Michelle outdoes me in pushups as well. (Laughter.) So she shouldn’t feel bad. She’s an extraordinary talent and she’s just a dear, dear friend — Ellen DeGeneres. Give Ellen a big round of applause. (Applause.)

Somehow, once sites like PoliticoBuzzfeed and Business Insider got wind of the joke, they jumped on “go all the way down” faster than you can say fellatio:

“Emboldened by an enthusiastic reception from Hollywood’s gay elite, President Barack Obama made what appeared to be an off-color joke about his wife and Ellen DeGeneres during a fundraiser last night,” wrote BI’s Grace Wyler.

Huffington Post reported that the White House pool reporter perceived sexual undertones as well:

He warmed up with some jokes about the first lady’s appearance on the Ellen DeGeneres show. “Michelle outdoes me in pushups as well,” he said, after saying that she’s taken some criticism on her technique “because she doesn’t go all the way down” -– a line that he let hang, naughtily, provoking laughter from the crowd.

Salon blogger Alex Pareene called the salacious reporting out for exactly what it is:

“It’s stupid, and most of the people with jobs as political reporters are at least literate, and understand that this thing did not happen,” he wrote. “So don’t repeat it, or even write that “some say” they thought it maybe happened.”

It’s extremely telling that of the 8 years that Obama has been on the public stage, he has never once disrespected his wife or discussed their sex life — or even alluded to it. But all of a sudden he feels so “comfortable” around his gay buddies that he makes oral sex jokes about her? Why is that? Because stereotypical myths and prejudices about black men and homosexuals as it pertains to sex were brought to light by a simple joke.

How absolutely pathetic.

    Jambo Baby Sis!!

Hope your weekend is off to a superb start and remains that way!! :-)

Blatantly disrespect and complete foolishness… I am not surprised. Just because President Obama has great affection for his wife as he suppose to, maybe these people think it’s okay to crack “oral sex jokes”. It’s not okay.

“he has never once disrespected his wife or discussed their sex life — or even alluded to it” Indeed. And he never will. Reporters or anybody knows that a couple’s sex life is their personal business. ..smh!!!

  • Lady P

    * Blatantly disrespectful ~ :)

  • luise

wow how in the hell did they get that from what he said. some people love to stir up some trouble.

  • Nicole

He didn’t make a sex joke! He was talking about freaking push ups!

  • Demetrius

It happens a lot some person or persons are so desperate to make someone look bad, that it backfires and the attacker winds up looking like an idiot.
It has happened many times before. Recall when the black athlete said, “It’s not 9/11″
that it was twisted into sounding disrespectful.

Men won’t be able to speak in public or anywhere at all because some kook can twist any innocent thing into something bad.
Yes, as a poster posted, “Pathetic”

  • Devra

Just bring on November! I’m ready for a second term, given all the bs POTUS and FLOTUS have had to deal with…

There are some truly sick racists in this world who will stop at nothing to blatantly disrespect the Obamas.

  • tisme

some people really are sick and sadistic.you can always tell because EVERYTHING always comes back to sex.try speaking on politics, land ownership, racism, poverty, liberation basically anything that doesn’t or shouldn’t involve sex and you will notice that some people will always bring the conversation back to sex regardless.men are often the ones who politicize sex.they try to use it as a weapon to rule and to fragment groups of people
