This show is full of racist stereotypes and black people are just loving it. Reminds me of how Halle Berry was celebrated by black women after winning an Academy award for her depiction of a sexually promiscuous black woman who responds to the loss of her only child by begging a redneck to make her “feel good”.

Agreed! If Sookie got killed off I wouldn’t be upset because her character annoys me nor does she anchor the show to me, Lafayette anchors it and the “supporting” cast is what makes the show interesting NOT Sookie Stackhouse. But the premier was good not the best but good nonetheless and as long as Eric and Alcide is around for eye candy I’ m good…..sighs all kinds of good…lol

You spoke my mind! WTF! I think I do have a love-hate relationship with true blood.
Tara is always breaking her back for Sookie and in this epi, she didn’t even wanna have her turned for a second! Its mind bottling, the lengths that Tara has gone to protect stupid Sookie. I kind of hate it because it reflects the horror movie stereotypes (the black character always dies, usually protecting one of the white characters).

I have been lusting over this show since before it was even a show, when it was just a series of books. What I always find interesting, though, is that the parts of the show that are most heavily critiqued are the parts that they pull directly from the books. I think the best part about this show is that it is able to juggle so many dominant story lines without making it too confusing and messy. And I also love that, as someone who has read the books, I am still kept on my toes by the plot. However, as a woman of colour I can understand where you’re coming from Tami. I would just say hate on the author of the books and not the show…

I liked the premier. I don’t know what to say about Sookie. It’s funny because she’s the main star, but I care less about her than I do the other characters. I think she is staring to bore me.

I am actually kind of not-surprised that Tara was made into a vampire. For some reason, I saw that coming back when she had that crazy vampire dude, Franklin trying to make her “love” him. I can;t wait to see what she’ll be like in the future.

As usual, I want to see more Lafayette.

I would like to see more Alcide.
