I listen except country . I just can’t get with it! Shania Twain kinda swayed me but not enough to like it. Anyways right now my music is dark rock music and trip hop to reflect my current situation .

I feel like music wants to be Blake… Every time I hear a new artist of any race they stay sampling, emulating or mimicking our shit! Satanic music…really? As a metal listener, a lot of the lyrics are the same level as R&B a lot of the time, except they use harder drums and vocals and an electric guitar. Unfortunately, the likes of Marilyn Manson have been made the face of metal. He and his ilk are a small minority of metal. You’re entitled to your opinion, but pigeonholing a whole genre of music…c’mon. It’s done enough.

Ain’t nothing worst than people being politically correct about the REALITIES of music and it’s origin

I will side-eye anyone who tells me “there’s no such thing as Black music”. That’s like cursing the Black American experience. Our history (and arguably our fate) is so intertwined with the music we’ve produced over our existence, particularly here in America.

Let’s not gloss over that big Black elephant in the room. Clearly the majority of music that has been embraced GLOBALLY has been from the experience of the African diaspora. SHAME to any person, Black or White, that calls music generated by (primarily) Black peoples “not Black music”… UGH

I played in a post-punk band for 5 years. One of my friends (who is Asian) was also in our band, and the drummer of our band is white. Is post-punk black people music? Is it Asian music? Is it white music? Yes, yes, and YES because we are all of those things and we enjoy playing/listening to that type of music, among other genres.

just about all western pop/modern music stems from black americans – blues, jazz, rock, r/b, gospel, rap. ALL OF IT.

it’s so sad when black people who want to appear open-minded, forsake their own history and culture.

although i wouldn’t necessarily classify things as black or white, i would say that music (like most art) definitely comes from a particular experience. doesn’t mean others can’t do it, but the blues (and its expression) as we know it just doesn’t come from japan and rap don’t come from china. it was born out of black american history and experience. deal with it. that’s just the dang truth.

now, in terms of artists, i proudly listen to a lot of black artists, whether they be american, brits, peruvian, malian or brazilian – we are diverse like that. black folks all over the world do amazing music. for me it’s not merely about listening to the music. it’s also about supporting black art and black artists and those who give voice to a particular experience. that is important to me.

i also happen to think that black folk (no matter if it’s son, lando, samba, soul, jazz) make some of the best music anyway. why do you think everyone copies it?

why do i need to listen to kpop crap when i can listen to usher (who i don’t listen to) or some other real soul or r/b talent? they are doing nothing but aping black music and straight copying the style, dance and expression.

black people get robbed of some many things. it’s so sad when we want to act all post racial and not embrace our contribution of artistic musical genius to the world.

nothing wrong with claiming what’s yours.
