Dressing Your Age

by

The temperature is rising and you’re tempted to slip on a pair of hotpants to battle the blistering heat, but you’re on the fence about your wardrobe choice. Are you walking a fine line by wearing these short-shorts or will you get a pass because hotpants are a fashion favorite this summer? Don’t worry; you’re not the only one who has a love/hate relationship with the trendy shorts. The teeny-tiny shorts join a long list of other trends that could be hard to pull off because you the run the risk of looking like a teenybopper, and you’ve already crossed over into your thirties.

Should there be an age limit on certain trends? Generally, I would disagree. I think a woman needs to feel good and look good without taking age into consideration.

But certain trends, like wearing hotpants, sheer blouses with only a bra underneath, or having your entire stomach exposed in a cutout dress, are arguably earmarked for the teenybopper set.

There’s a way to try these trends and still look sophisticated, no matter your age. Here are some tips:

1. If you want to wear a sheer top, try a complementary camisole instead of a matching bra.

2. If you want to rock out in a pair of hotpants, balance it with a less revealing top and lower heels.

3. If you want to wear a cutout dress that bares your entire stomach, don’t. Try a less revealing dress. A one-shoulder frock or dress with an open back could do the trick.

Do you think some trends should have an age limit, Clutchettes?

Both outfits would look just as bad on a younger woman. Toni’s dress isn’t even all that revealing (granted we can’t see the back) but the print makes it look cheap IMO. Vivica looks uncomfortable (stiff posture, locked knees). It’s a sign her outfit is maybe more revealing than she’s comfortable with. Dressing well>showing more skin, always.

The look a thousand times better than most of these 20 something rollie pollies wobbling around. Gut and butt 20 year olds. At leas the 40 somethings know the value of keeping their assests in shape.
