Did Rihanna become more famous after the incident with Chris Brown, or am I just imagining things? I feel like people hardly knew who she was before, and now she’s like an A-list celebrity.
Yes. She was famous (Umbrella), but “The Incident” turned her into a tabloid/gossip website sensation, which made people want to know more about her as opposed to just listening to her music.
I dont think thats the case. I think she was always going to rise to this level. But I think her incident brought everybody back to reality and people empathized with her. It made her human and people wanted to see how she survived. I think her rebellious nature and her ability to make trends is what kept her star rising.
Maybe…I don’t know. I understand what you’re saying but I believe it would have taken much longer for her to blow up. She did have Jay-Z cosigning so, perhaps. However, the incident did put her in the limelight. It’s fascinating that she kept working on her music despite all that was going on.
Once Umbrella dropped she went into mega stardom , before the beating I heard an executive mention that she had to go through 3-4 CDs to make it and now she a superstar .

Kudos to Bazaar for not white washing Rihanna out. She looks natural and free.
