Sherman Hemsley, Best Known for His Role as George Jefferson, Dies at 74

Sherman Hemsley, who was most famous for his role as George Jefferson on the memorable ’70s sitcom “The Jeffersons,” has died at 74 years old.

According to TMZ:

Hemsley died at his home in El Paso, Texas. Hemsley became famous during his appearances on “All in the Family.” The spin-off, “The Jeffersons,” was a monster hit. He also starred in the TV show “Amen” and was a professional singer who even released a single in 1989, “Ain’t That a Kick in the Head.”

No details have been released on the cause of death, though it’s believed he died of natural causes. Hemsley had no wife or children.

  1. *Throw punch bowl DAMN DAMN DAMN* RIP Sherman a real true television pioneer loved George Jefferson because he just didnt care and said whatever and also Deacon Ernest J.Frye who as a lawyer made you sometimes wonder how he kept his law license lol. In this day of reality show trash we had some great tv back not to long ago and real talents,wish we could go back to that. By the way next time I hit the club I’m doing the George Jefferson and I dont wanna hear no static about it lol
