Thanks for educating me on exactly who Alice Coachman is and about her accomplishments! An Albany native myself, it’s a shame I’d never learned about Alice though my mother attended an elementary school named in her honor.
Thanks for the article. Although, the emphasis has been on first black woman to win a medal in gymnastics (Dawes) and first to win all-around (Douglas). I’d hope most people know they aren’t the first black women to win gold—look at track & field every year.
