New York Fashion Week came to an end last Thursday and though the week received little fanfare compared to past seasons, there were a few collections that stood out from the fray. Featuring the work of black designers, these looks were wearable and inspired. They boasted impeccable structure and refined silhouettes, befitting of a stylish yet modern woman.

Here are five collections we loved:

1. Mataano

Mataano‘s breezy and feminine collection of wispy dresses was rooted in chic Spring sensibilities.

2. Tracy Reese

Tracy Reese‘s effortless separates marked a change from feminine romance to breezy, cool sophistication.

3. Duro Olowu

Duro Olowu mixed vibrant prints with ladylike silhouettes for a fascinating collection of spirited yet classic pieces.

4. Stephen Burrows

Stephen Burrows energized functional dresses, blouses and fitted pants with bright hues, graphic prints and watercolor patterns.

5. Ozwald Boateng

Ozwald Boateng splashed vivid color atop impeccably tailored shirts, suits and blazers that ran the gamut from fancy black-tie wear to relaxed casual looks.
