All Sheer Everything: Does The See-Through Trend Offend?
As far back as my memory will take me, I remember when see-through anything was against everything we stood for. Seeing a young girl in a sheer top was unheard of, taboo and quickly gave you the title of “fast”.
Now the look has become popular on the runways and re-entered wardrobes — including models and recording artists like Ashanti and Jessica White.
Recently, Laura Govan wore a sheer dress on the Jackie Christie runway.
While I know it’s a popular and edgy look, is it possible that the sheer trend takes sex appeal too far? What happened to the art of mystery?
And while it isn’t putting your underwear completely on display (it is sort of covered), it all just seems like an extremely loud way to get attention when you step out.
Maybe I’m being a bit prude, tell me what you think? Would you rock sheer everything? Do you think the trend is overdone?

Of course, a lot of what’s shown on the runway (or worn on the red carpet) is art. No one’s expected to wear it in real life. But the Jackie Christie dress would have been amazing with a nude leotard or slip under it. Fashion is meant to be reinterpreted. So take what you will and leave the rest.
I agree with Saidah…however, you know there is going to be many chick wearing nothing but the dress in order to get some attention…that’s the part that disappoints.
i JUST saw this lady at my job with a sheer top and all her bra and goodies were showing. she was with her husband and kids. i wondered why her husband didn’t say anything about her breasts being out like that.
then this one chick i guess wanted to show off her new breast implants so she was at a GROCERY STORE with a see thru top and no bra and once again she was with her man… who most likely didn’t say anything since she was still in public looking like that.
i guess they think it’s a good thing for other men to gawk at their wife and the mother of their children while she is out looking like a prostitute. some people take “if you got it,flaunt it” too damn far!
I agree with Saidah Ali, the runway is a whole different world than the street. On the runway artistic concepts are presented. The models are simply displaying the designs and the concepts the designer want to present, it has nothing to do with models wanting to be attenetion whores. When I see women in the streets wearing this stuff I only come to one conclusion and it aint positive.
Personally, I love the sheer trend when done right. The photo above is tacky to me, there is nothing wrong with peaks of skin when rocking sheer but when you can see everything and your undergarments clearly you did the trend wrong imo.
