Open Thread: Will Attacks On U.S. Embassies Lead To Another War?
In the wake of Tuesday’s attacks on the U.S. Embassy in Libya and the protests spreading across the Middle East and parts of Africa, many are wondering if the heightened tensions will lead to another military conflict between the Arab world and the West.
Since the U.E. Embassy attack in Libya occurred, the embassies of America and other Western allies, like Germany, have incurred angry protests. Spurred on by an anti-Islamic film, the protests have continued to intensify over the past few days.
In Lebanon a KFC was set alight by angry protesters, and in Sudan, three people were killed amid the demonstrations over “The Innocence of Muslims,” the obscure, low-budget film which sparked outrage across the region.
After the attacks in Libya and subsequent protests in Yemen, the U.S. dispatched an elite group of Marines to each nation to secure the embassies and two navy destroyers have also been sent to the region.
Although the leaders in Middle East have spoken out against the violence, and some have used their nation’s security forces to beat back protesters, President Obama has vowed to bring the perpetrators to justice and issued a stern warning to would-be terrorist that America will not stand for attacks on it’s people.
Finally! I needed to talk about this issue that sparked all over the Muslim countries its insane… so sad and disturbing at the same time… what are we doing wrong, is it the freedom of speech, did we not see this coming? Wow wow wow
If you consistently refuse to honor another’s humanity by failing to listen to their concerns, fears and the consequences of your actions on them, and if you continue to refuse to talk to them (by dubbing them terrorist organizations), then what else can you expect from people who are suffering and who are being goaded into this behavior? Yes, we are going to war. Globally and soon. Pretty sure of that. The thing to do is to isolate ourselves, invest ASAP in windfarms, develop cultural diplomacy programs that are MUTUALLY respectful and rebrand America from the ground up as best we can. BTW, you can thank Mossad and the crazy ass evangelicals for this mess. Quran preaches self-defense, honor and justice-these people feel as if they have been stripped of theirs.
Why should we curb our freedom because they get offended? No one responds with sudden violence like middle eastern Muslims. Really, I think it’s more of a culture thing than anything. I don’t hear any Muslims in the states or UK or most western countries going on like hooligans. They already have a anti American mentality in the first place and this whole movie is used as an excuse to act an fool We shouldn’t give up our freedoms because others don’t know how to act.
Curbing your freedom? Really now? And Muslims are violent? When is the last time you seen a Muslim country go to war with anyone in the last 20 years? The answer is none! Now, when is the last time bloody UK and the US attacked a country? Like yesterday. Wake up! Simple question: what is the color of the soldier uniform in Afghanistan, Syria, Libya, Egypt, and Iraq? What freedom are you speaking of? I have more freedom living in a third world country than you claim to have in the West. We the people of the world outside of bloody UK and the US don’t want to get on the propaganda wagon!! No offense but if you are going to declare over 2.3 billion people violent, I need you to be more specific and learn the cause and effect. As a matter of fact, don’t your pride and joy the WEST call black people violent people? I even remember a recently published journal by a Harvard Grad student who claimed that black people are per disposed to violent and genetically inferior. I believe her name is Stephanie Grace, look her up. I also believe she works or worked in the White House. In addition, doesn’t the West claim we Africans are violent? Every single war in Africa from the beginning of and since colonial imperialism has the West hand in it. You don’t believe me? Look it up (for short summary read the autobiography of Malclom X by Alex Hayle, it explains the Western agenda). Lastly, was it the Arabs who colonized half of the world? Robbed every African nations, Indians, Native Americans, Japan, every bloody Island and it’s people? That stole our brothers and sisters and in slaved them for 400 plus years? I could name every country that has been screwed by your precious the West but there are over 100. When people fight for their integrity you call it violent.
The West is the problem not the solution. Shouldn’t they be busy paying China back the trillions they owe? Nah too busy instigating war to sell weapons because that’s what US manufactures.

A lot of folks in the U.S. are so DAMN clueless, and or ignorant of their country’s foreign policy and are quick to defend. It is SICKENING, to say the least!

You know the irony of the situation is that African Americans are portrayed as violent people even to us Africans. But I feel most of us Africans are aware of the Western agenda so we take this divisive propaganda for what it is. Whereas most of the American people including AA buy in to this madness. Americas biggest business is selling weapons but most people within its country don’t realize at what coast!!
@Jennifer, yes it IS the Free Speech. We are way too dedicated to the idea of the First Amendment, daily to our own detriment. It’s also our unconditional support of Israel. And our refusal to “negotiate with terrorist organizations.” And our militarized culture. And our lack of respect for human dignity and the sacred things of others.
Other religions get insulted all the time, but it’s okay to insult them, but the Muslims get a national apology? Also, even if we didn’t support Israel, Muslims would still have a problem with us not being Muslim.
And the Romney’s who say “We should NEVER apologize” Cuz, you know, domination is the proper response…

I have felt that way in many instances….but the US gives money with attachments…don’t take the money if you don’t want people meddling….the US has always given money to control others…
