Sayings That Should Go Away – Y.O.L.O
Up until a few months ago, I never knew the meaning behind the acronym Y.O.L.O. I remember seeing people tweet about referencing a Drake song. I saw people post their Y.O.L.O tattoos and also various other memes. Eventually I turned to Google to see what everyone was talking about.
Y.O.L.O.
You only live once.
Let’s look at few examples of Y.O.L.O.
So, peeing over a balcony is something you do because you only live once? Or is it something to do because you’re an asshole?
So is the point of Y.O.L.O to die while you’re only living once? Or is it that you have a death wish?
I blame Drake. He needs to be held accountable for the abuse of this acronym. If it wasn’t for his song, “The Motto”, we wouldn’t have to suffer through another over used and unnecessary saying. Y.O.L.O has officially become the “carpe diem” of stupid people. I’m sure the people of Yolo, California really hate the acronym.

There are many sayings that I would like to go away, but one that bothers me the most is the phrase “Go kill yaself/yoself”.
One other thing that bothers me are people who claim any famous or infamous person as their ‘wifey’ or husband.
oh my gosh! nicki minaj is the QUEEN of telling people “kill yoself” it’s not cool to say stuff like that. sometimes that actually runs through people’s minds. not cool!
wow at the tweets…yikes! Especially with the car tweet o_O that is just stupid. Right now “have a seat, row of seats, etc….” and any phasing including the word “bitter” are grating my nerves.
Oh yes. ‘She’s bitter’ and ‘She’s insecure’ to describe any behavior/opinion by a woman that someone else doesn’t agree with.
Another one is ‘stop hating or hater’ if you disagree or dislike someone.
I forgot to add my number 1 of “you know what I’m saying or know what I mean…” UGH.
I wish they can get rid of the saying “at the end of the day” and .com at the end of EVERYTHING.
You totally read my mind. I am soo tired of watching television or talking to one of my friends and someone busts out and says “at the end of the day” or “it is what it is”.
@Nire, Ok as of today “it is what is it” is off my vocabulary:)
YES! The phrases ‘just so you know’ and ‘at the end of the day’ have been so overused it makes me wanna punch someone!
I was truly tired of hearing, “but at the end of the day” from LAHH Atlanta until I hear that very phase in Michelle Obama’s speech last week.
This isn’t really a saying per se but I loathe “as far as,” especially when it’s used more than once in a sentence. I always don’t care for “doing the most,” “it is what it is,” “work flow,” “gym flow,” “school flow,” and tons of other of-the-moment phrases.
Girl you didn’t just per se ? Now you reaching waaay back!
I think YOLO is important. Way too many people put off doing things they SHOULD be doing because they’re too busy playing it safe and keeping up with the Jones’. Just because a couple of douchebags attach YOLO to some jackass tweet, doesn’t make it a less valid point. The fact is, people let their lives go by all. the. time. You only live once; make it count.
Amen to that! YOLO
