Sayings That Should Go Away – Y.O.L.O
Up until a few months ago, I never knew the meaning behind the acronym Y.O.L.O. I remember seeing people tweet about referencing a Drake song. I saw people post their Y.O.L.O tattoos and also various other memes. Eventually I turned to Google to see what everyone was talking about.
Y.O.L.O.
You only live once.
Let’s look at few examples of Y.O.L.O.
So, peeing over a balcony is something you do because you only live once? Or is it something to do because you’re an asshole?
So is the point of Y.O.L.O to die while you’re only living once? Or is it that you have a death wish?
I blame Drake. He needs to be held accountable for the abuse of this acronym. If it wasn’t for his song, “The Motto”, we wouldn’t have to suffer through another over used and unnecessary saying. Y.O.L.O has officially become the “carpe diem” of stupid people. I’m sure the people of Yolo, California really hate the acronym.

I saw a YOLO tweet the other day in which a young man used it and he and his four friends got killed when their car crashed and flipped a few times. All in the name of YOLO… Yes, you only live once, but that doesn’t make it an excuse to do dumb BS so you can DIE early. I know people are going to take phrases rappers say and go overboard with them but come on now… SMH. I also hate the phrases “Swag” and “It is what it is”.
Heard about that story the other day. How unfortunate. I don’t know how I’d feel if I was the parent of any of those kids
I thought YOLO was corny the first time I heard it. Another sayings is “have a seat.” I will be the first to say that I use and abuse it, but I admit I need to phase it out of my vocabulary. Especially since not a lot of my friends and aflliates seem to know what it means off of the internet. Which may mean I spend too much time on the internet.
So none of you like cliches….why was this published?
