Is Makeup Enough? Zoe Saldana On The Set of Nina Simone Biopic
Nina Simone’s biopic is currently filming and Zoe Saldana has been cast as the lead. Despite a public outcry when Zoe’s role was first announced, director Cynthia Mort and crew have went forward with production. Instead of choosing another lead, the film producers just got creative with makeup.
Photos surfaced from the set of the film, and Shadow and Act notes the images, which were submitted by a reader, are not official and we can’t be sure which stage of the makeup process Zoe was captured in.
However, we can tell that Zoe appears darker, with a wider nose, fake teeth and an afro wig. For some, the photo begs the question: why not just hire an actress that actually resembles Nina Simone?
It will be interesting to see if Zoe’s performance will keep audiences from being distracted by this elaborate makeup job.
What is that mess on her head? Nina’s ‘fro was always impeccable.
I don’t even want to get started on that botched makeup job. Good lord.
And I used to think that Zoe Saldana was good people…SMH.
Not only should we boycott the movie but every film Zoe Saldana is in. Maybe even blacklist her as in “Do Not go to see any movies she is in (watch it online or bootleg it), always complain about Zoe acting abilities” just ruin the B!tch career. She is the one that took this role, instead of being respectful to Nina, her daughter feeling and the Nina fans, Zoe took this job to maybe boost her acting career. And all this talk about Zoe being black when she first came out as an actress she said she was not black but Dominican, NOW she is saying she black to be able to play black roles and to gain the black community support.

Also where are the glorious headwraps?! And I know Nina had a stylish and well-kept ‘fro, but that looks like a wig you pick up at Party City.
Zoe Saldana isn’t even the problem with me (though I still want with passion Viola Davis as Nina), it’s the whole fact that whoever is putting this together has literally IGNORED everything that Nina Simone stood for in life and only care about bodies in movie theater seats. Nina story is an incredible one, and it should be told — but not like this. This is just plain disrespectful.
On a brighter note, I suggest everyone listen to Meshell Ndegeocello’s Nina Simone tribute album…she gives the legend a tribute filled with admiration and respect.
ummm..you see ONE picture from a movie that isn’t even done filming and ask “where are the glorious headwraps”?????
okkkkk…questions like this are why i can not take any of these armchair critics seriously anymore.
