Issa Rae has finally gotten the big break she deserves with a half-hour comedy, “I Hate L.A. Dudes,” which has been sold to ABC. The show will be executive produced by Shondaland, Shonda Rhimes’ production company. Issa Rae will write and produce.

If you’re over the moon excited about this pairing, you’re not the only one. The interwebs were excited about a potential collaboration between Rae and Rhimes after the “Awkward Black Girl” creator tweeted a picture of the two.

The new comedy, “I Hate L.A. Dudes,” promises to give fans exactly what they hoped for. According to Rae:

I Hate L.A. Dudes centers on an aspiring journalist, new to Los Angeles, who becomes the lone female voice on a budding, male-driven Internet talk show, while learning to decode the often humiliating and exasperating rules of the LA dating scene.

We first gave readers a peek at the web series version of this show in July, and can’t wait to see it come to life on the small screen. We’ll share details about the show as more information comes available.

In the meantime, tell us: will you watch “I Hate L.A. Dudes,” Clutchettes and Gents?

  • Smilez_920

I WIll be watching this. And I hope everyone that has been folding the Internet about ” positive / different black shows ” ” no more love and hip hop shows ” ” shows that put black women in a better light” will TUNE in to watch . It’s time to our our money where our mouth is and support Support Support.

I will be watching and I will try my best to post it on twitter and FB.

Let support in the masses, this is how we get better programming.

  • T

I’ll definitely get with the first season at least. What happens after that is up to the show’s quality. That said, very proud of Issa Rae for cracking into that Hollywood machine. Hoping she can stay close enough to her vis!ion

  • binks

It depends; I will try and give it a chance to see if it is my type of programming but if it is not then I won’t watch. Don’t stone me but “Awkward Black Girl” though refreshing wasn’t my cup of tea. I always felt like I was missing something when the discussions about it use to post on here…lol But congrats to Issa Rae on following her dreams and Shonda Rhimes for expanding her brand and giving her a chance.

  • Srenda

    WhoooHoooo!!!!! Go Issa!!!!!

  • African Mami

Do ya’ll see God? When we support our own, and stop relying on others for the narration of our stories, and or our success, see what happens?

Let this collaboration serve as a sounding board/testament for yes we can, and we have-well, at least she has, and she is such an inspiration of where dreams can take you, if you just let go, and let be!

Over the moon for Issa! Congratulations mama. You deserve it! Yes JESUS!

  • GlowBelle

SO glad to see Issa Rae’s talents getting more shine! Even though that plot sounds WAY overdone (I even say this as an ‘aspiring journalist’) and I wish it was AWB getting the network treatment, I’ll give this show a shot considering the backing behind it. Should be a lot of fun!

  • L. Michelle

That’s awesome! I will definitely tune in. I am DESPERATE for something new to watch on regular TV.

  • JT

Hells YES, I’ll be watching! Go, Issa!!!

  • brokejetsetter

Yesssss I can’t wait to watch! I’m so proud of the progress she has made! It’s nice to see alternatives to typical Hollywood tv.

  • TheAntifash

*Huge Smile* I dig this chick so much. From this, to “Ratchet Piece Theatre” to “ABG” to “Roomie Lover Friends”. I love everything she’s been a part of, and it’s so great to see her win. Big shout out to Shonda for supporting it. This is major ladies! =D

  • bk chick

    Go Issa! she deserves it

  • Rue

Will I watch? Wild horses could not drag me away.

  • steve

    Very happy for the sister

Now im just wondering will the network , hire the standard pretty light skin women to play the main role?

  • Marcia Wingfield Hill

  • Drew-Shane

  • Cassie

Hell Yeah I’ll watch! Go Issa! Go!

  • Dee

YES! This is a great pairing and I’m looking forward to the show. Hopefully it will be as good as I expect it to be.

  • Nicki

I’ll watch. I also hate LA dudes. So… there’s that.

  • pe.riche.

That’s an initial worry I had myself.

However, Shonda Rhimes has an excellent rapport on choosing a cast that can carry out her vision, rather than simply casting someone based on looks. I’m super excited for the premiere!!!

  • lol

steve is a black male troll who is just trying to start sh!t, he doesn’t really care…ignore him

  • chanela17

@lol how is he a troll? it’s the truth! the WOULD do something like that!

since issa rae isn’t part of the stupid “standard” of beauty, they’d probably pick a light skinned actress or a white one instead of dark with a TWA. it’s sad but true. hes not a troll for saying that.

  • zelda

anybody who has an opinionthat is different from yours is always “unattractive”…

    runnin’ outta insults are we?lol

  • Bauce

Yes! Things just got real for Issa Rae. Love seeing fellow sistahs make it! Such a #Bauce.

  • Charle

I’m also a huge fan of Roomie Lover Friends at the moment! Recently unsubbed from Black and Sexy’s channel (I know Issa Rae is co-producing the show with them), because as much as I WANT to like The Couple and The Number, they feel a bit *too* unscripted and meandering. Maybe I’m weird for not wanting to see the mundane aspects of a guy and girls’ relationship, or a guy and girl struggling to cope with a the girl’s promiscuous past, but everyone else seems to adore it, so I feel like the odd one out.

I think I can feel Issa’s presence on RLF, though; it’s much quicker-paced, and there’s more humor. I definitely prefer it!

  • Nic

The Couple “couple” are really, really annoying. I just can’t with that series. They are like people I would HATE in real life.

  • Avril

Agreed! Wish it was ABG and not this but maybe it’ll still have the flavor. I’m hoping. I’ll watch it to support Issa if nothing else.
