It seems all the lives of our music greats are fodder for Hollywood films. There’s now talk of a James Brown biopic. The film would follow the Godfather of Soul’s legendary sixty year career, from his impoverished upbringing to his ascent to superstardom.

Tate Taylor of “The Help” has signed on as a director and Mick Jagger is said to be one of the producers. Both Wesley Snipes and Eddie Murphy have been thrown around as potential lead actors.

While I’m hesitant when Hollywood signs on to tell the stories of our legends, both Snipes and Murphy have the potential to do James Brown justice, and having another music legend on the production team (Jagger) can help bring Brown’s story to life.

What are your thoughts, Clutchettes? Would you watch a James Brown biopic?

  1. Eddie Murphy is one of the most talented actors in the game today. He will do this justice and then some. He just may win that Oscar.

It may be his comeback role. I can’t wait to see it.

I love Eddie like nobody else does, but I feel as though Samuel L. Jackson would have fitted this role better.

I had the pleasure of seeing James Brown perform live, and it was an experience like no other. I will definitely see this movie when it comes out.

Eddie Murphy ? No No No! That’s not the way Hollywood does it anymore didn’t you hear? Zoe Saldana, a Latina gets to play Nina Simone, and a biracial actress Jacqueline Fleming plays Harriet Tubman, And even Angelina Jolie played an Afro Cuban woman so I’m thinking Justin Timberlake would get to play James Brown and Flava Flav will play Elvis!!!
