Tyra Banks has built an empire from her various enterprises in modeling, television and even literature. She is a hugely successful business mogul, regularly topping Forbes’ list of primetime’s top-earning women. She also has an extraordinary education to boot; the former supermodel graduated from Harvard Business School this year. But she feels there is one role missing in her charmed and accomplished life: mommyhood.

Tyra spoke with Harper’s Bazaar Singapore about her burning desire to become a mother: “I want to have kids and I think it needs to happen very soon. I feel like I was born to be the experiment of the definition of beauty and to be a mother.” She continues: “It’s something I have to do. I won’t be happy if I’m not a mother.”

Some women feel societal pressure to become mothers, and believe they are inadequate if they don’t fulfill that role. Tyra, however, seems to view motherhood as a part of her life’s purpose (“I was born…to be a mother”).

We hope she gets her wish. Tyra has the considerable fortune to be able to provide for a child. She also had a strong example of parenting in her mother, Carolyn, who often appeared on “America’s Next Top Model,” to offer wisdom to the contestants.

What are your thoughts on Tyra’s interview, Clutchettes?

  1. I love Tyra and I wish her the best! I think she’ll be a fabulous mother! She’s been in the industry since a teen and has carried herself exceptionally well through it all! In regards to the few commentators discussing her nose, get a life and grow up! Tyra is beautiful. It’s really sad that someone ALWAYS has to find the negative in EVERYTHING! It’s freakin’ Tyra Banks, one of the most successful supermodels in history and now a business mogul! Who cares about her nose? Smh. Please stop with the ignorance, and just pay respect where respect is due! As women we’re our own worst enemy.
