Workouts You Should Try: Barre

by Frugivore

If you’ve been looking for a new workout to shake up your normal routine as we head into the New Year look no further!

Barre workouts are the latest craze for women looking for a great total body workout, but make no mistake; Barre is not for the faint of heart. Barre workouts target your butt, thighs, arms, abs and burns fat utilizing the ballet barre to perform small isometric movements.

What’s great about this workout is that the Barre technique protects your joints since it does not involve any bouncing or jumping and each section of the workout is followed by a stretching section in order to create muscle without bulk.

The hour long workouts pay attention to all the areas we would otherwise neglect and the peaceful environment gives you a Zen like feeling similar to yoga.

Barre workouts are a great way to challenge your body and push it to new levels, so if you think you’re up for it, add this new workout to your routine and kick your 2013 fitness level into high gear!

This article inspired me to go to a barre class on Wednesday. Let me tell you I dance regularly and run so I figured it would be easy. WRONG. 2 days later and legs are still killing me! If I keep it up, I ‘ll have Tina Turner legs come summer!

  • Timid

Sounds like a challenge. I know I wouldn’t be able to feel my legs for the next 7 days. I would just die. :)

I want to try Insanity. So if anyone wants to get me that for Christmas, I won’t be mad (:

  • mEE

Insanity is amaaaaazing! I did it once a year ago as a challenge and as a way to ramp up my workouts. I’m someone who works out regularly and it kicked my butt. like I could not believe how difficult it was to the point where I cried, yelled at the tv screen, quit a half dozen times lol. so good!
now I’m doing it again because the gym in my building flooded during Hurricane Sandy. it’s definitely easier than the first time but still ridiculously hard.

so yea I definitely recommend it. my coworker and I are thinking about going half on Asylum and doing it in my classroom after work.

thanks for posting this! i’m currently addicted to hot yoga (shameless plug for moksha yoga in LA). maybe i’ll mix it up with a little barre next year.

  • J. Gail (@Author_JGail)

Sounds interesting! And like it will probably hurt but I’m open to new things. Thanks for the info sis!

    hot yoga is the ish

  • DERA

I teach zumba, box, run, practice yoga and lift weights. I work out 5 days a week. NOTHING prepared me for Pure Barre. It is the hardest exercise routine I’ve ever done, but definitely the most rewarding.

  • Kincaid2576

I couldn’t agree more. Pure Barre is an absolute beast. It was harder than every workout I’ve tried.
