KandiReal Housewives of Atlanta star Kandi Burruss is preparing to say “I do” to production manager Todd Tucker, but before they take their trip down the isle, the former Xscape member says they will be singing a prenup first.

In the latest entry on her Bravo Blog, Kandi shared her excitement for her wedding and explained why a prenuptial agreement is mandatory for her new union.

“I do believe in pre-nups,” she wrote. “I know that some people feel if you are truly in love and are planning to be dedicated to your marriage that a pre-nup somehow means the person requesting the pre-nup is expecting the marriage to fail. I don’t agree.”

She described her and Todd’s pre-nup as a safety precaution. “Just like if you have a fire extinguisher in your home it doesn’t mean you expect it to burn down, but you’re just prepared to put out the fire before it starts if need be,” she said.

“I feel like people do some crazy and vindictive things when they’re hurt, so I think there should be agreements set in place while everyone is thinking clearly. That way if D-day ever comes (and hopefully it won’t, but if it does), then it doesn’t have to get uglier and more hurtful than it already is,” she explained.

Kandi went on the say that she was surprised to find out fellow RHOA stars Porsha and Kordell Stewart did not sign a pre-nup. “I hope Porsha and Kordell’s marriage lasts for a lifetime, but I will say that I was shocked when she told me that they didn’t do a pre-nup. I don’t know why I was shocked, but I was,” she said. “Some people like things the good ol’ fashion way, and there’s nothing wrong with that. To each his own!”

What do you think of Kandi’s confession? Is a pre-nup always the right way to go?

A prenuptial agreement is the right way to go if for whatever reason that person deems it is best for them.

Smart woman, a woman in her position and celebrity status needs to take precautions, being in love doesnt mean being dumb.

A pre-nup is a must. Even working class folks should consider them. When you write it all down you’ll be surprised how much you may have in assets…not to mention any inheritances that may come your way during a marriage.

Be smart. Plan ahead for every eventuality. Then work like hell to make sure you never have to look at that paper again.

I agree with her. I think “prenups” get a bad name because people view them as inorganic and unholy in a sense…lol. As she mention when people think of prenups they usually think you are planning for the worst by already foreseeing your marriage failing or that if you get a divorce than you get nothing or not your fair share when that doesn’t HAVE to be the case. If most people just have the basic outline of a prenuptial agree, expectations in their marriage and divorce then relationships wouldn’t be nearly as messy and disingenuous as they are now.

I absolutely LOVE how smart Kandi is about her money. Every time it comes up on the show, I smile and just want to hug her. Just moved out of the same house she’s been living in since she was 19, proudly proclaims to “ball on a budget,” and doesn’t allow herself to get caught up with financially trying to keep up with the Joneses. It’s just so REFRESHING!!!!! and even more respectable since she makes waaaaaay more money than any of the spendthrifty divas on RHOA.

Those other RHOA women should definitely take notes from Ms. Burruss.

Why Kandi Burress is making her fiance sign a prenup: Because she has money and is in the entertainment business. She can love him, but she’s not going to be an idiot about it. Didn’t read the article and don’t need to.

I say to each his own. Those who want prenups should get them. Those who don’t want prenups should not get them. Everyone’s choices should be respected.

  • MommieDearest

I totally agree. The few times that I have seen this show, it’s been obvious to me that Kandi is the one who has the most sense of all those chicks. I wish her continued success.

Been with him for about a year or so, moved him in with her child in less time….hmmm. ….yeah she’s real smart. Good luck.

I’m wishing it wasn’t such a big deal. Kandi wanting a prenup is posted up on a bunch of blogs like its major news. There are no news stories when a man requires his wife to be to sign a prenup. We assume that just comes with the territory. Prenups aren’t planning for the worse, its taking a necessary precaution. Just like buying insurance…

As she should and so will I

  • The Commet

This Diva is soooo under rated. Her erotic toys have redefined how women pleasure themselves…and others. I hope to read an article about her business very soon.

Kandi irks on the show, but I love and respect her being financially saavy. She is probably the most “comfortable” financially on the show but does not feel the need to prove it. Which is how she maintains her paper… She can teach the rest of the cast a thing or two

  • Perspective

Wow – so when women doing its being “financially savy” but when men do it – our love for the woman comes into question.

Prenups are not always held up in court – perhaps she might find out that the hard way – Men have already found that out.

  • gmarie

ehh I’m not really a prenup fan in general, but I understand them. My comments on her were more in line with her actions based on the show, that aren’t related to a prenup agreement. She has proven to be fiscally responsible all around. Not always in other aspects of her life.
