When Will It Stop? Jemele Hill Shares Racist, Sexist Letter on Twitter

This is not the first time ESPN’s resident journalist Jemele Hill has been inundated with racist letters and tweets from the vast audience the self-proclaimed Worldwide Leader in Sports commands. But this time, Hill decided to air out one particular vile racist who wrote a letter containing bigoted language towards the Michigan State alum.
In the letter, the asshole viewer refers to Hill as a “b*tch jungle bunny,” “spear-chucker,” and demands ESPN to let her go “before she back slides into some ebonics-laden inarticulate mumbo-jumbo tirade.” Additionally, the anonymous man reveals he’s “not interested in spending all day listening to some thick-lipped gorilla attempting to properly speak the King’s English.”
Astonished that her ignorant pen-pal had enough of racist vernacular to eschew from using the N-word, Hill went on Twitter to expose a small dose of what she says she receives pretty regularly.

“I get these types of letters every day,” she tweeted Adena Andrews, a writer for ESPNW.
We cannot pretend like Obama’s reelection was a sign that racism is something of the past, but what is unbelievable is that we cannot have a serious, nuanced conversation about race in America without white people denying it even exists to the extent this hate-letter suggests. And not to mention, the underlying misogyny in the hyper-masculine sports world helps belittle the contributions of highly qualified women. Wow, we have a lot of work to do in 2013 …

No one likes to see a black woman succeed.
Things like this are never going to stop because hate is taught.
“Wow, we have a lot of work to do in 2013 …”
We?
Lol. Good one Val. it’s not our problem when they hate us.
Right! It could be 3012 or 4013 time doesn’t eradicate racism or wounds from it. I wish people would stop using the “well it’s…” that doesn’t mean a thing. As for President Obama please this president has gotten the most dead threats/hate than his previous counterparts…post racial America my @ss! Sadly ignorance and foolishness like this isn’t going to change but the way people hide their hate, disguise it and use it does….please be aware this isn’t a WE problem but a theirs
Just so I can understand….our current president as gotten more”threats/hate” than lets say previous president George w bush?, in which the world still mocks him for his “stupidity” and our nation hugely blame for the downfall of this country ? I ain’t saying Obama doesn’t get shade but I don’t see the intense hate, annoyance and the mockery I did for p. Bush.
George Bush may have gotten mocked, ridiculed and embarrassed no doubt about that but I haven’t read about him having to deal with numerous death threats, him facing discrimination about his race or his wife and kids getting disrespected left and right. Let’s be realistic there is a difference between “George is just dumb who the hell voted for this guy…did Yale pass him along” than “I can’t believe this N*gg*r is running the country, I can’t stand his youngest daughter(actually heard someone said this recently), his wife looks like a money…” Apples and oranges my friend appleas and oranges.
If you read the articles on ESPN online regularly this isn’t surprising the comment sections are loaded with the out right bold to the very subtle hate. All the reporters get it, the woman get it harder and Hill gets it the worst. Most of it is born out of jealously, it kills them that she is where they want to be. A field like sports which is male dominated it is understandable that her existence in it will rub people the wrong way.
I dont think its jealousy at all. I truly believe people think she is a terrible analyst and only has the job because she is a black woman.
Any one who still speaks and thinks this way is completely ignorant.
just ‘ignorant’?
No probably not – but it all stems from ignorance – it’s like a bad weed growing in a garden.

Adjective
Lacking knowledge or awareness in general; uneducated or unsophisticated.
Lacking knowledge, information, or awareness about something in particular: “ignorant of astronomy”
Why are so many people ignorant of the definition of ‘ignorant’? No disrespect sis, but it really gets under my skin when Black people use the word ‘ignorant’ to describe racist White people. They KNOW exactly what they’re doing…
Thank you for this. Misuse of “ignorant” is a pet peeve of mine.
FINALLY! It makes my blood BOIL when I see the word ‘ignorant’ being used incorrectly. On this site, and others, I have provided the correct definition of ‘ignorant’ and got thumbed down or comments from people who were upset about me clarifying what it means to be ignorant.
There are dictionaries that even has a separate definition of ‘ignorant’ labeled as ‘Black English’.
