Tracy Reese famously designed the dress FLOTUS Michelle Obama wore to the Democratic National Convention but long before that, we’ve been a fan of the designer. In fact, her presentation is one of the shows at New York Fashion Week we look forward to the most.
This season, she built on her signature polished, feminine look with modern prints, trendy hues and of-the-moment accessories. Here are 5 reasons we loved it:
1. She found inspiration in punk!
Punk culture has long been a muse for fashion but it’s drawing renewed interest this year as the theme of the MET Gala and the inspiration for Tracy Reese’s latest collection. It’s a huge change in direction for her to embrace the youthful, fun aesthetic but she did just that in pink motorcycle leather jackets and knit beanies.
2. She showed animal print.
From leopard to cheetah, there was no shortage of playful animal print on Tracy Reese’s runway. The prints turned up on swingy skirts, heavy sweaters and feminine coats, getting a refined Tracy-esque spin. She even sent a cat down the runway!
3. She mixed patterns.
We’re still not over mixed patterns for Spring and thankfully, neither is Tracy. She showed a chic sheath dress that blended floral, brocade and bright colors. The look is so refined and Bohemian we could see it on everyone from Solange to Mrs. Obama.
4. She didn’t stray from her signature.
Tracy Reese is praised most for her A-line dresses and she didn’t neglect them here, churning out the popular frocks in metallic hues.
5. The outerwear was decidedly bold.
Though dresses are her bread and butter, Tracy’s outerwear was just as exquisite including one neon and leather peacoat we couldn’t keep our eyes off of.
