Fantasia Goes After Jet Magazine on Instagram, Demands An Apology For Cover Picture
Fantasia has been the subject of harsh criticism in the public eye for everything from admitting her illiteracy to being involved with a married man who eventually betrayed her. When news hit that she had attempted suicide, many of us wondered if she’d ever be able to find peace. She also recently posted about gay marriage in a rant about being judged, that many took issue with.
The American Idol winner recently sat down with Jet Magazine for an interview in which she muses about self-love and raising her children, and appears to be in a better place:
On self-discovery:
“I am finally able to love myself. The main thing I wanted in life was peace and freedom; the ability to let go…You could say the stage saved me because when I’m in front of people I carry my pain and soul…That is my salvation.”On living single:
“I’m single and happy. I have a great relationship with both of my children’s fathers… If you catch me with either of them, we are not together— we are just being good parents. All I’m focused on right now is music and my kids.”
As positive as the interview sounds, her work with the magazine is not without its share of drama.
The singer erupted on Instagram, chastising the magazine for using an old photograph of her:
This saddens Me!!! It is clear that this picture is 10 Years Old and JET Magazine puts it on the Cover!! After I send them the NEW LOOK AND DIRECTION. . SAD!!! I WANT A PUBLIC APOLOGY FROM JET. Now im not sure if the interview is correct. SEE!! America they and use me as they crash Dummy BUT NO MORE. IF I DONT STAND FOR SOMETHING ILL FALL FOR ANYTHING.
Fantasia is certainly not perfect — none of us are — but I can’t help but feel her outburst is in poor taste. It’s sad that the cover story’s message of self-love and freedom is shrouded in conflict due to her airing dirty laundry on social media.
she is a homely chile; doubt that she has improved during the last ten years. prolly looked better then. needs to sit down and be quiet….
With the ugly way you talk about another person, I doubt you’re giving off the essence of Miss Black America yourself.

This would NOT have happened to Beyonce and the other pretty chicks! Who the HECK does that! Fantasia has grown into a woman and beautiful at that, she has EVERY RIGHT TO BE UPSET, AND EVERY RIGHT TO SPEAK OUT! You mf’s will be beating a different toon if it were you..H*ll.. they put up a highschool pic and the woman dang near 30… Don’t bash her! This is the madness she is talking about! Losers!

Good point! People may not like her as much as the so-called pretty girls but she deserves the same respect when it comes to business including but not limited to magazine covers. If they didn’t think her new look was good enough, they just shouldn’t have used her.
If she sent them a current pic, why would they dig up an old ten year old ass pic and put it on the cover? Tay has every right to be angry. I’m sure Jet wouldn’t have done this to rihanna or beyonce. so those of you saying she need to be happy or whatever, Tay has graced the cover of jet plenty of times. This is not her first cover and they should have used the pic they gave her.
Why did they use old photos of her? It is disrespectful to her as an artist! it makes no sense, and I don’t blame Fantasia. I did not see it as an outburst. She’s lamenting the feeling of being disrespected again. I will make sure I don’t buy this Jet!
I don’t like the way she addressed it was right HOWEVER…why should she stay quiet just because she’s not a big star like “Beyonce”? So what, that doesn’t mean they can treat her any type of way?! No! Her people need to be more involved in what goes out. The cover should have been approved.
@ash. Agreed. Before anything went to press …. she or her team should have had eyes on it. Somebody would have lost their job if that happened to Bey or Rihanna etc. She does have a right to be upset but it could have been handled better. Wonder what was behind the decision to use an old photo? I’ve seen her recently in newer photos and she looked good.
