toure

Since the start of his talking head stint on MSNBC’s The Cycle Touré has been referred to as a few not so nice words. This week, it happened to be “village idiot” after his support of President Obama’s drone wars and the right to kill American citizens, especially those who have jumped ship and joined Al Qaeda. Ironically,  7 weeks ago Toure seemed to be anti-drone wars, “It wrecks the soul of America,” Touré said.

Flippity flop. Touré changed his tune during this week’s episode of The Cycle, Touré had this to say:

We’re at war with al Qaeda right now, and if you join al Qaeda, you lose the right to be an American. You lose the right to due process. You declare yourself an enemy of this nation, and you are committing treason. And I don’t see why we should expand American rights to people who want to kill Americans, who are working to kill Americans, who are committing treason. This is not criticizing the United States. This is going to war against the United States.

Touré makes it way too easy for people to refer to him as MSNBC’s village idiot. But what makes it even crazier is when you adamantly defend your flippity flopness via Twitter:

Toure Tweet

…and

Toure Tweet

It’s always nice to have a vehicle to voice your opinion, but wouldn’t it be nicer if the opinions were at least a little consistent? I’m pretty sure Touré’s block list on Twitter has a few more people added to it.

    in war people get killed…

  • dirtychai

Sometimes I wonder if Toure really means some of the stuff he says or if he’s just trying extra hard to be provocative.

  • camille

He has always irked me with his “expertise.” First, it was hip hop, and now, al Quaeda

thank you for once again re-emphasizing my dislike for this idiot….

  • Fantastico

He’s better at hip hop/ pop commentary. Whenever he touches on history or politics it is a major failure.

  • stef

Even innocent women and children right?. Drones and their use will be the biggest part of Obama’s legacy. And when the president becomes white and republican again( that will happen again you know) , will we support drone bases and attacks on the African continent like we do now.?

the rise of the drones and the silence exhibited by people calling themselves liberals and progressives is a shame.

  • Echi

    Toure? #beendone
Speaking of MSNBC – have they finally banned DL “I-Can’t-Stand-Black-Women” Hughley? His presence there is so out of line of their liberal ethic.

  • Beautiful Mic

He encompasses the classic definition of a charlatan. A “whatever’s clever” type.

“Even innocent women and children right?”

have you forgotten 9/11? i was there and i never will.

hate the player or hate the game? touré is dumb, true but isn’t that just what MSNBC is looking for? are they going to put a black person on there that will TRULY speak truth to power? i don’t think so.

  • AnGe

Agreed. I thought I was the only one confused when I saw him discussing politics, when I coulda swore his area of expertise was just barely pop culture.

  • KR

Do you have a REAL WORLD better solution for those planning terrorist attacks or are you just running your mouth?

  • AM

I think Toure suffers from a great need to be validated as an intellectual…..
    #imma prayforyoubrotha

  • KR

Have you also noticed that half of the on air black personalities and off air staff at CNN & MSNBC are gay. Blacks think they’re getting a black perspective. They’re actually getting a GAY black perspective.

  • http://gravatar.com/jamesfrmphilly jamesfrmphilly

saying something smart would be a step in the right direction…

  • AM

    LOL!
    -
I think his commentary is better suited in hip-hop, as aforementioned. He can’t handle the political pool. It’s too deep for his intellect.

  • http://commentarybyvalentina.wordpress.com Val

I think Touré wants to be the Presidents Press Secretary. Lol Maybe that’s why he changed his tune.

  • Allie

What the f@ck does that even mean. So what if they are gay, they can still contribute to the our understanding of the black experience, because guess what? They’re still black.

  • omfg

i’m amazed people pay attention to this clown.

  • stef

@jamesfrmphilly ofcourse not since i live in NYC and my good friend belwah blackman died in tower 2 at age 30, but i will not take part in the neo con ignorance that says we no longer have to follow due process and that killing muslim children is ok because of because of the so called war on terror and 9/11.

when you open this can of worms the question then becomes when does it stop and with WHO?

  • Joy

Echi: Sounds as though you totally misunderstand DL. DL has great commentary, and is funny as well. Come on now….DL doesn’t really hate women. Realistically speaking why would he when he has a wife, and daughter?

  • Joy

J: totally disagree with your analyst of MSNBC. You always have a conspiracy outlook

that is because the gub’ment is reading my thoughts with a laser beam….

  • Blackmon

Ok Clutch and Clutch readers, let’s show this man some Respect

Attack what he said/did, but respect the man.

Cause as much as I HATE Toure, and I hate him a lot, we know that his heart is in the right place, and he’s on our side… And by that I mean Black people.

  • MommieDearest

    You and me both.

  • Joy

Black: Plus he’s still getting paid…..no matter what we think

  • http://gravatar.com/jamesfrmphilly jamesfrmphilly

do you have a suggestion as to how we should wage this war? how is it that we can kill people who are trying to kill us? what method would meet your approval?

  • http://gravatar.com/missinformation7 Ms. Information

I think he needs to stick to gay rights, what he knows best….lol.

  • Beautiful Mic

Is he gay? I thought he was married, with child.

  • http://twitter.com/iluvblackwomen iluvblackwomen

Toure has been doing this since he first got on twitter i believe he is the black version of @Jason – and tomorrow’s “UNCLE RUCKUS(Boondocks)” baiting us with outrageous insults. I have personally battled his tweets since 2009 adding injury to insult the next day MSNBC will have him on as a ”cultural critic” to speak on How Black Women feel about being underrepresented on TV. smdh all i can say is Karma!

  • LemonNLime

When I read this comment, I almost fell out of my bed.

Is this the same jamesfromphilly that recently railed against black people who supported the 2nd amendment? The very same who basically said that black who believed in guns rights supported the system of white supremacy?

If so then you are a hypocrite. Drones are being used indiscriminately on brown people on the other side of the world killing many innocent men, women, and children. But that is OK because a biracial president is allowing it or it doesn’t affect black people here? Many of those people have nothing to with the Taliban or Al Qaeda and are victims of them too. And you know what breeds more terrorists? Killing families and leaving destruction in your wake. These people are seeing our government do this and we aren’t winning any friends. And might I remind you of the possibly for drones to be used in US territory by our govenment or for countries like Iran or China or N. Korea to use drones on us.

There needs to be rules for drone warfare recognized by States, just like we have the Geneva Convention.

And don’t use 9/11 as an example like you are some patriot, OK? My mom was supposed to be at the Pentagon that day and 9/11 was the only day in my life where I publicly got on the ground thanked God for her not being there. That was the 2nd attempt on that building so it was a known target and it was already establish that many of the deaths that day could have been avoided if the CIA and FBI picked up a damn phone and spoke to each other. In Pakistan alone, we have already killed the same amount of people if not more than those who died in 9/11. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drone_attacks_in_Pakistan#Statistics.

Looks like jamesfrmphilly is an agent of white supremacy and neo-con politics himself.

Im scratching my head reading this article thinking “I thought he was a hip hop critic???” Why is he giving input on politics all of a sudden? And even as a hip hop critic he was a mess!
