There’s always a bit of a media fuss when a black celebrity lands the cover of Vogue as it doesn’t happen often enough. The magazine, which is considered by many to be the “fashion bible,” has taken a liking to Beyoncé, featuring the superstar on its April 2009 cover and now for the March 2013 issue.
Much like her last cover, we see Bey with minimal makeup to showcase her natural beauty. Her classic updo is juxtaposed with a very modern fashion statement: a black and white top with a structured curved collar on one shoulder and the strap of a tank peeking out on the other.
The cover line reads like something one of her stans might send out in a tweet: “Queen B! Beyoncé rules the world.” The mention of Bey’s reign is a nod to their Power issue.
The reaction to the cover has been mixed. Some are happy to see an accomplished black women representing power on a magazine that has been slow to embrace diversity while others feel underwhelmed by this shot of Beyoncé.
What are your thoughts, Clutchettes? Do you like the cover?
