Mike Vick was set to embark on a book tour this week, promoting his new book “Finally Free”, but some people want him dead. The book tour, that was covering New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Georgia, was cancelled because of death threats.

According to the New York Daily News:

A person with knowledge of the situation, speaking on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the situation, told The Associated Press the signings were scrapped because of threats against Vick and store employees. Vick served 18 months in federal prison for his role in running the dogfighting ring. According to court papers in the cases of Vick and his codefendants, Vick bankrolled the operation and joined others in killing dogs that didn’t perform well.

Byron Williamson, president of Worthy Publishing, tells Phillymag.com that “we cannot knowingly put anyone in harm’s way, and therefore we must announce the cancellation of Mr. Vick’s book-signing appearances.” Williamson says the threats of violence have been reported to the police.

Can a man live?

By no means am I defending Vick’s previous issue with dogs, but the notion of  “kill a human, save an animal”, just doesn’t sit well with me.  I guess people don’t realize death threats are crimes that are punishable as well and don’t always end up being anonymous.

Man…white people are crazy. Leave the brother alone! I find it interesting that they seek to persecute him harder than if they would do to a person who actually harmed someone else. Just shows how screwed up society is.

And how much they “love” their dogs. And guns.

  • Tallulah Belle

Men like Vick are latent serial killers themselves. They are one step from torturing another human being. The kinds of things, terrible and hideous things, that he did to those dogs demonstrates a sick, violent mind; an evil person who lacks empathy for one of God’s most loyal, beautiful and dedicated creatures. Vick got lucky, he did his time and they turned his big, dumb, country ass loose. He should keep his head down, his mouth shut and continue to play his little boy game for white folks money. He is so cleary deranged. Who cares about his idiotic book.

  • L.W.

Exactly. Studies have shown many serial killers began their careers of cruelty by torturing and/or killing animals. And he just got himself another dog which who knows how he’ll treat that animal.

  • Jay Cee

Tallulah, if memory serves me correctly, Vic did not DO anything to the animals himself. You sound stooped. YOU sound deranged. What about the white guy on t.v. in the semi shadows who told the 20/20 commentator that dog fighting was a way of life there in that part of the country, and he dared ANYBODY come to his place and try to interfere with him and his dog fighting? What you had to say is totally asinine.

  • Kaeli

I’m black and I love my dog and I know many other black people who love their pets. What he did was wrong, inhumane, and disgusting but he did his time and seems to have realized the error of his ways. It’s time to let him live his life.

  • Kaeli

Wrong!!! He did actually kill dogs and had been dog fighting for years before this particular fighting ring was discovered which means he had been engaging in this behavior for years. I am sure it was a part of his upbringing and he didn’t see anything wrong with it but it was still wrong and disturbing what he, and the people around him did to those animals. Not sure what your point is about the “white guy on t.v” but it doesn’t make what Mike Vick did any less wrong. It simply means their is a white guy out there who is apart of the same disturbed culture that believes dog fighting is ok.

  • Come On

In the South? Dog fighting is not a way of life in the South. It is a way of life for sick people who see this sick twisted act as entertainment. And even if it is a way of life, it is WRONG!!! They fight chickens in places, and that is wrong too. White Southerners didn’t see anything wrong with slavery either. They thought their peculiar institution was a way of life.

And I agree with the other posters. People who will harm other animals like this are sick. And that white man was sick as well. What was supposed to be the point with that “white folks do it too” argument?

  • Marisa

Instead of the dog fighting ring Mike Vick should have just committed a Big Ben Rothlesburger you know he of the couldn’t keep his hands to himself when it comes to women. Then have ESPN not even report the story for weeks, have some cops cover for you, then pop up married a few months later. Or Terrell Suggs of the Ravens who smacked around his baby mama/fiancé and be charged with endangering their children, but the Ravens were the team of destiny (rolls eyes) so that went away without a blip. Mike fatal mistake was harming fiddo if he had just been a menace to women and children no problem, as pets particularly dogs rank higher to some of these folks than actual humans.

    Don’t mess with PETA….

  • Full Throttle

    This is a racial issue.

If Michael Vick was Johnny Vick, I promise you, the vitriol would not have been as intense. He may have gotten the Big Ben treatment.

White people hate black men, but they try to intellectualize & justify it with moral smokescreens.

  • angel

    Say that! !!!

  • Marisa

How many participants in PETA go out of their way to actually help their fellow man, yeah its all well in good to help the well being of living things but, them folks go way past extreme, they should roll with the NRA, as we know how they feel about their fellow man too.

  • MamaB.

People who threaten to harm/kill children are bad people. People who threaten lives of workers they don’t even know based on the fact that their shift falls when Vick is going to be there are stupid and bad people (bad combination). These are not people with bad behaviors, but plain old BAD PEOPLE. Where do they do that at?

  • Moe

I wonder if ( white) people will treat that South African sprinter the way they are treating Mike and Ray Lewis?

This is ridiculous, hunt down these pet goons and lock them up in dog cages.

  • mathematicaster

I am. I think they are all pieces of crap. Dog killer is sub human. Man killer is sub human. Woman killer is sub human. And none of them has any “excuse” for the behavior. They are all grown men. They are all successful. They are all wealthy. And they should all be in prison.

  • mathematicaster

Hanging a dog by its neck on a tree is as not doing anything as burning a woman at the stake so as not to draw blood. You are an amazing apologist for a sick perverted human male.
