Not only does Diane von Furstenberg design amazing clothing, but every year the Diller-von Furstenberg Family Foundation Awards (DVF) honors four recipients who have displayed leadership, strength, and courage in their commitment to their causes. Through their work on a diverse range of issues and initiatives, Honorees have succeeded in improving the social, economic and political standing of women, creating inspiration and momentum for enduring change in communities across the globe. Each Honoree received a $50,000 award from the Foundation to sustain and expand their extraordinary contributions.
This year, Gabrielle Douglas was on hand to present an award to Tammy Tibbetts, 27, Founder and President, She’s The First. Through She’s The First, Tibbets encourages girls’ education in the developing world, helping them be the first in their families to graduate. In the U.S., the program fosters leadership and global awareness in young people through creative fundraisers and by encouraging them to interact with sponsored students.
“It was such an extreme honor to meet and present the @DVF 2013 People’s Voice Award to Tammy Tibbetts last night! #inspired,” Gabby tweeted.
Good Morning America’s Robin Roberts was also honored during the DVF Awards. Roberts received the lifetime leadership award for the “extraordinary grace and courage” she has shown in her fight against breast cancer and a blood disorder, according to a statement from von Furstenberg’s Diller-von Furstenberg Family Foundation.
