Ebony Magazine

Gospel super-duo Mary Mary was tapped for Ebony’s June 2013 cover. The issue celebrates the tradition of black music, but Erica and Tina Campbell are sharing more than their love for gospel in the feature. The Campbell sisters candidly tackle infidelity, going solo and more in their interview.

Tina – the outspoken and bold sister – has a cover-line worth gasping at. Underneath the revealed image of the ladies on the cover is “Tina: How I forgave my husband after his affair.” Tina’s spouse Teddy cheated on her.

“Once I became aware [of the affair], I initially wanted to kill my husband,” she said. “I was considering adjusting the will, the living trust and all that kind of stuff. I did physically try to stab him. Several times…I never got to the point of physical harm, not really, but my words…My words hurt.”

Tina and her husband have reconciled. The couple married in 2000 and had their fifth child, Santana, in 2012. Her husband’s decision to cheat prompted Tina to focus on her family rather than music. Erica has decided to pursue a solo career in Tina’s absence. Her decision will also be highlighted in the story as well as how God has guided her career and her marriage.

“I feel like my husband has been called to minister,” Erica explained. “Now I said, ‘Lord, when I first started dating this guy he worked for Death Row Records, but he was from the church. That was a perfect combination for me: a little street, a little church.”

Both songstresses also tackle the criticism they’ve received for participating in reality television. Their sisters’ smash WEtv series has exposed their popular music and divergent personalities to wider audiences. WEtv has renewed the show for a third season and Erica and Tina Campbell will be using the platform to highlight their solo projects.

The Ebony issue hits stands May 7.

This issue better hit my mailbox before the 7th. I have an issue with Ebony getting me monthly fix on time.

anyway, never knew her husband cheated, and didn’t know that only one of them was going solo.

  • Chelley5483

Irrelevant comment alert: This is by far the best I’ve seen them look. Excellent cover.

  • omfg

    women are such forgivers…

  • http://verityreign.com Verity Reign

This cover is GORGEOUS! They look amazing!

  • T

Oh my, forgiveness is hard thing to do. I can truly commend Tina for that.

  • pyteena

Now I understand why Tina never wanted to be away from her family; while it’s clear she adores her kids I think she’s also afraid of letting Teddy out of her sight.

  • OhStLaw

They are always in something, low cut or tight…there’s no difference in looking at them and any secular artist.

  • Drew-Shane

I never understood why she was so pressed either when watching the show. Now it makes sense, thanks!

  • MISS_EMCEE

I think some of the reasons why, is that some woman do not want to deal with the whole dating scene again. It’s more convenient i to suck it up and stick with it. The prospect of finding a new man now a days may be challenging for some women. You really have to do a sexuality, mental, health (std), and criminal background check if these women wish to pursue a relationship. Also, the time and commitment building a new relationship may seem like fatigue work for some woman. Lastly, think some woman just accept to live comfortably not happy.

Church folk are absolutely crazy and always exceptionally dysfunctional. Not to mention a bunch of hypocrites. Trying to stab her husband and fantasizing about murdering him? How Christian of her. Sitting up in church all day long obviously hasn’t healed the rage in her.

  • Fran

I agree the clothing that they wear is always to tight. Tina where is your faith when it comes to your cheating husband? I was surprized by some of the issues on the show. Mitch needs to find new clients. No one has displayed any respect towards him. Family and business are two different issues.

  • kenzy

i didnt know Warryn used to work for Death Row, was he a producer there too? anyone know?

  • http://www.facebook.com/weebey.brice.94 Malik Hemmans

he used to work with Dj Quik…he was affiliated but never produced for em

  • omfg

    @miss_emcee

you think it won’t be a headache to keep a man who has cheated on you?

i’ve never been in this situation but i know women who have been – married with a cheating spouse – and i don’t think it’s necessarily any easier to keep him.

keeping a cheating man presents a whole new set of challenges and difficulties that are no less great than dating again.

the women i know who are dealing with this are racked with insecurity and depression and a bunch of other issues.

and speaking of std’s, i know women who will never screw their husbands without a condom again.

walking the path of keeping an adulterous partner is not necessarily easier than going it alone.

and i hope women are not staying with a man because they fear the dating scene. that’s ridiculous.

she probably stays because of her religious beliefs more than anything.

  • Ashley.

Waiiiiiit. Nobody has questions abt her plotting to murder him?! So far as ADJUSTING WILLS AND WHATNOT. That’s problematic on so many levels.

  • Liz

whooo chile, it all makes sense now. Tina is the MOST extra person I have ever “seen” in my life, mind you… my very own mother acts like freaking Dominique Deveraux. Tina is a woman desperate to hold on to her marriage, I won’t judge her antics as harshly now.

  • Joy

Wow! 5 kids!! These days not many people are willing to have 5 kids. Even super duper wealthy people (generally) don’t have that many kids. Kids are a very expensive endeavor. I don’t know….but I’m just sayin’…..it appears that he was happy to keep her barefoot, and pregnant to free him up to cheat

  • Tina

I’m wondering if they dropped their sister and used a real stylist for the cover. It’s a much better look all around.

  • D

“A little street, a little church.”

LOL….that right there explains so much about women’s choices and modern relationships.

  • http://www.facebook.com/trina.tubman Trina Tubman

They have 4 together and he has a daughter from a previous relationship which gives them 5 all together

  • http://www.facebook.com/trina.tubman Trina Tubman

Yeah my husband is a lil street, a lil church too, works for me….

  • http://www.facebook.com/trina.tubman Trina Tubman

Yes both of them are pursuing solo careers they said that in an interview…

  • http://www.facebook.com/trina.tubman Trina Tubman

No she still styles for them but they do have another stylist who styles for them as well named Jason Bolin

  • http://gravatar.com/noirluv45 noirluv45

Why is not having a man so bad for many women? It’s OK to not have a man. I do understand how difficult it would be to start over. I would rather go solo than put up with a disrespectful man who disregards our marriage. To ME, it’s just not worth it, but, eh, to each her own.

  • MISS_EMCEE

I agree with your comment completely omfg. I know women who said that one of the many reasons they stayed because they want to start over and date. It’s not the main factor to stay with a cheating man, but some women think like that.

  • http://www.facebook.com/kelley.johnson.75436 Kelley Johnson

    THIS.

  • dirtychai

I watched the first season of that show and wondered if he had been or would be unfaithful to her based on the way she was acting. She’s way over the top.

  • Gina Wild

Every woman loves the bad boy. Even the church girls love a man who’s got a little bit of a bad boy in him.

  • Carefree

that was one of the most ratchet statements

  • Cocochanel31

We don’t know the circumstances of their marriage. Most of the time when people scream they are going to leave their husband of umpteen years with five children after he cheated once ( I’m hoping) are lying.

    But to each his own.

  • Cocochanel31

I agrre…I know it’s hard because they have body for days but damn! lol

  • Liz

    WAY over the top… agreed.

  • MCross

Street could imply Street smart people. It doenst have to have a negative connotation. And wow! I didnt know her husband had an affair. Hope they can make it work..

  • http://www.facebook.com/felicityrankinsrhode Felicity Rhode

I certainly wouldn’t say that “street” implies criminal conduct or violence. I know plenty people from the “street” who are neither.

i wish the show had more Jesus in it ,too much flesh… I can get that without watching the show…

  • Rene

Love the show!! I’ve gained so much more respect them.

  • http://www.facebook.com/tiana.council Tiana Council

Well, Tina professes to be a Christian. In Christianity, God teaches that you must forgive those who hurt you, especially if you want Him to forgive you for your own mistakes. Therefore, this has nothing to do with being a woman; but it has more so to do with her Christian values.

  • Orange Starr Happy Hunting

Forgiving and staying are two different things!

  • Ericka

People on here is so judgmental, Look at yourself first before judge people.call your shit out first

  • Neka

All I can say is tina is a very strong woman………..my husband would have to sleep with one I open for the rest of his life

These are two amazing sister! In my opinion they are hot most of the time; they are trendsetters. Guo is good at what she does in making her sister hot for the camera.
I take off my hat to Tina! She has to live her life and the haters should not be so critical. She is amazing and has the right to “FORGIVE”her husband! It is great to know that she not only sings about the LORD; she also walks the life she sings about.
    You Go Girl!
May God continue to Bless you , your husband and kids!

  • Sandra

That sounds ridiculous, she can probably have another man of her choosing! She is HOT! But I’m sure like not so many other career women can get caught up in their careers and “Neglect” their families; to the point things happen. Have you ever watch their WE programming? Perhaps she recognizes that she can share in the blame for the affair. She has vested in her family and she should be commended for doing for so many other married couples can’t do, “save their families.”
Furthermore do you have a husband? in case you ask ,”no” I don’t.

  • Sandra

I too could not understand why she wanted to break up such a hot duo singing GOD’s word; like she and Erica.

  • Deemac

yes it’s a lot of headache staying wit a cheating husband, have bn there and still there. Is so crazy that only you knows how u feeling. Makes you sick , lose focus of who you, your goals and fall into depression. our so call religious values makes the fools also the kids.we jst stay there suck up all d the thrash and live in so much pain. If you ask me, I’ll say NEVER stay wit a cheating man.. I know what am going thru rite now and honestly I don’t know if is worth it hmmm !

  • Kym

Idk I think maybe she just really loves her family and her husband and wants to try to make it work? Some are more willing to attempt forgiveness than others. God bless them, I hope it works out for them they are a beautiful family.

  • Nope

These losers were just looking for a way to bring up how horrible black women are into the conversation. You know we all love thugs.

  • forgive

Amen Sis Sandra… isnt it easy to just turn and leave… but when the question was asked how many times to forgive 7 X 70 but we can speak things and sing things but until we live through them we DO NOT HAVE A TESTIMONY plain and simple..GOD when he was her could have simply stopped a talking about what he was going to do and never do it where is the living in that? Know this as much as Christ has suffered int he flesh (reminding my own Dear Self) are yourselves (ourselves) likewise.
    He is soon to come…

  • http://Google Toni C.

Tina, is A beautiful person she want’s to keep her family A family there’s nothing wrong with that. One only know’s what one would do in the same situation. All I’m say’n is she shouldn’t be judged.

  • Jas

You need to leave that man and get your life back. Everyone deserves to be happy. You only have one life to live and you should choose to have your life story end happily. Think about what you’re teaching your kids. They know exactly what’s going on and they’re hurting, embarrassed, disgusted, and humiliated as well. I hope that you’re protecting yourself from STD’s and getting tested for everything regularly. It’s so sad sitting and watching people HURT THEMSELVES, which is what you’re doing. Lastly, no it’s not worth it. But I’m sure that you know that. Wake up before it’s too late!

  • http://[email protected] divineidongesit

Tina, may God reward your obedience with honour!

  • http://gravatar.com/divineidongesit Divine Idongesit

Hey Tina! God will reward your obedience with honour

  • Tillunda

Tina I commend you for living the wedding vows you promised to not only Teddy but to God when you stated that you would love him for better or for worse. God will reward you for staying true to your vows. For what God has truly joined no man included one’s self can put assunder. The best in your marriage is yet to come. This sis was only a test. Although you have been given a hard pill to swallow remember, “there ain’t nothing too hard for my God.” Don’t give up for this to shall pass. I can’t wait to hear you sing again. You have always been my favorite Mary. Everytime we (Fred Hammond) gigged with ya’ll I had to see you sing to make my time away from my family a little bit better. Jesus will work it out :-)

  • yvetteb

who’s to say he won’t cheat again especially after she just had a baby and was on tour with her group, supporting her family.

  • vicky

I have to say I have been going through the worst of storms during my 8 year marriage and I hope the storm lets up, through it all I have stood by my husband. If he ever cheated Idk how strong id be. People dont value marriage like this anymore and she does. Its bad when they do that, but the fact of the matter is that men are likely to cheat, women do it now to but men are more prone to it. For our part in the betrayal of God, we as women have to be strong and fight through all of this to provw our love to god. Its not about the husband or what he did, its about keeping our promise to god. We as women owe god our strength. No animal, no man, no thing on earth is stronger than a woman. We endure abuse, heart ache, betrayal, child birth among so much more, but we still stand. And thats whats important. Tina your doing what god would favor u to do. This is your test, and you will pass. Forgiving is hard, forgetting is even harder but put your trust in god and your trust for him will come back. Stay strong, keep your head up and at the end of the night, remember you are WOMAN and theres nothing that can break a woman.

  • shequita

Tina keep your head high. I went through the same ordeal . I was crying with you on the show. God knew what your future beholded so He prepared you to “Encourage Yourself” through your own songs. Be blessed my darling!!
