Outspoken conservative Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia has been on a tear lately.
In a recent interview with New York magazine he assailed society for being too vulgar, the press for being too liberal and women in particular for not being ladylike enough.
Now, according to a tweet from New York Times reporter David Leonhardt, he is trafficking in overtly racially insensitive remarks.
Scalia, while listening to oral arguments in an affirmative action case before the Supreme Court today, reportedly said, ”the Fourteenth Amendment protects all races” not “only the blacks.”
The Fourteenth Amendment grants citizenship to everyone born in the U.S. and subject to its jurisdiction and protects civil and political rights.
Needless to say, referring to the African-American community as “the blacks” is considered dismissive, and in some cases, derogatory.
