White people, just stop it.
Year after year, white people never seem to realize blackface is never a good idea. Julianne Hough clearly didn’t think it through when she decided to go as “Orange Is the New Black” character Crazy Eyes.
Hough, 25, wore blackface for her costume and included an orange jumpsuit and Crazy Eyes’ signature bantu knots. The actress was part of an ensemble costume with friends who appeared to have all gone as the cast from “Orange Is The New Black”. Apparently no one thought twice to say, “Hey Hough, yeah, that black face ain’t cool”. Clearly she could have gotten her point across with just the bantu knots alone.
After Hough got word of the backlash, came the apology via her Twitter account:
I am a huge fan of the show Orange is the New black, actress Uzo Aduba, and the character she has created. It certainly was never my intention to be disrespectful or demeaning to anyone in any way. I realize my costume hurt and offended people and I truly apologize.
