We’re living in an age when celebrities choose the most ostentatious wedding rings money can buy. From pink and yellow diamonds to 15 carat rings, stars opt for jewelry that’s so over-the-top they can barely wear it outside. Not Kerry Washington. The “Scandal” star made sure to buy a ring that fit seamlessly with her everyday lifestyle. She told Lucky Magazine:

“I never wanted to have a ring that I would feel uncomfortable riding the subway with. My wedding band and engagement ring are the only things I can say that I wear every day, I pin them to my clothing on set. That way, I always have them with me.”

Washington, who recently got married and is rumored to be pregnant, has an affinity for understated fashion. She also revealed that her off-duty style is much more casual than the glamorous fashion moments we’re used to:

“I can run into Madewell and J.Crew and be good for a few months. I’m not a formal person. I have a lot of jeans. And I have tons of sneakers, whether they’re the custom Nikes that you can make online or the Isabel Marant wedges. That’s the Bronx in me, for sure.”

Check out her full interview with Lucky where she discusses cooking, Olivia Pope’s style and what Tracee Ellis Ross taught her about fashion.

  • I am not really a jewelry person, especially when it comes to rings so I agree with her on wanting a low key ring. But I must say every time I read something about Kerry I like her more and more.

  • could we get kerry to sit next to that big guy on the bus? make his day?

I am in my mid-twenties. I know I will have to foot the bill when I get married, and that dream wedding in a castle is just a dream for me. I am not even sure I want a wedding ring. Maybe I can get a decent one after I get married, get the nice house, and make sure I have a nice 401K/retirement plan.
