I woke up early this morning to an email that I received overnight from my friend, Scott. The link in the email was so sickening and left me feeling absolutely disgusted with teenagers.  My own teenager woke up this morning at 5:30 a.m, and the first thing I asked him was if he’s heard about the “Knockout” game.  He had no clue what I was talking about and thought I was referring to a new video game.  I explained to him what it was and all he could do was say, “People are animals”.

In September, the body of a 46-year-old Hoboken, NJ man was found slumped in between a fence.  Eric Santiago’s death was a mystery until surveillance cameras revealed what actually happened.  Santiago was a victim of the “Knockout” game. Video surveillance showed Santiago walking  past a group of teenagers, during the day, and  just as he’s about to pass them, one hits him with a knockout punch to the face.  Three teens are now being held in the Hudson County Youth Detention Center on murder charges without bail.

Apparently this trend of teenagers walking up to strangers is the “fun” thing to do.  From New Jersey, to D.C, there have been reports of people being brutalized by teenagers, just so they can see if they’re able to knock someone out in one blow.

The latest victim of the disgusting game happened to be an elderly woman in New York City.

From CBS New York:

And in the latest incident in Midwood, the victim’s daughter said her mother was attacked in broad daylight by a young man who walked toward her, balled up his fist and hit her with all his might on the top of her head then ran off.

The woman told CBS 2’s Dave Carlin her mother was loaded down with department store bags and a handbag, but there was no attempt to take anything; just to do harm.

“She had her purse, she had bags from department stores. There was not even an attempt to take anything from her. It was just a wanton act to hurt another human being,” the victim’s daughter said.

She said her mother did not go to the hospital and did not report it to police because she thought it was an isolated case, and she didn’t get a good look at the man’s face.

The woman was amazed that anyone could perpetrate such a violent act.
“How would you feel if this was happening to you or a member of your family?” she said, “If you don’t like it to happen to you or a member of your family, don’t do it to someone else.

Since most of the victims in New York City have been Jewish, the game is being called anti-Semitic. The New York Police Department and its Hate Crimes Task Force are investigating the incidents.

Here’s how this game will end. A group of teenagers will confront someone, attempt to knock him out and fail. That victim will then pull out their gun and shoot to kill.  I’m going to need teenagers to find better things to do with their lives and time.

    @ Jackie:

I co-sign 100% with your comment, as well as others. I agree that when we were kids, our parents would give us a “what-for” if we got out of line. Nowadays, parents don’t raise their kids properly and make excuses for them, teachers are not allowed to discipline children (who are no longer held accountable for their behavior), and kids are enthralled by entertainers who have no morals or values. Unfortunately, the majority of Black children who are good will suffer because of the bad apples who give the rest of us a bad name. It’s a damn shame.

P.S.: I agree with previous posters — these punks need to be put under the jail and not released for years until they realize that their behavior has consequences!

Courtney H., YES! Cosigning hard on everything that you just said. Amen.

      @ Jackie:

Thanks. I substitute-taught and taught as a full-fledged teacher for three years, so I have seen a lot of what you mentioned in your comments.

This is not new, I remember reading out these types of incidents years ago, I guess it’s just resurfacing again. People are not going to tolerate this type of behavior from those who choose to participate in assaulting innocent people and many are prepared to kill if needed and will be justified in doing so.

What they need is to be put in the ring with a professional fighter and given three rounds of a taste of their own sick medicine. What society needs is more cameras on the streets to catch these young terrorists and severe penalties for them when they are. Every act should be viewed by the courts as attempted murder since that can so easily be the outcome. What Black Americans need to do is take a long, long, hard look in the mirror to figure out how their standards of behavior and lack of acceptance of responsibility have led to this. The culture of blaming society and the white man cannot continue.
