Michelle Obama, looking casually fabulous, made an appearance on BET’s 106 & Park last Friday to discuss President Obama’s “North Star” Goal. The North Star hopes that by the year 2020, America will once again have the highest proportion of college graduates in the world.
“So many young people just get into the grades and checking the boxes of the things they think they’re supposed to do, but there’s also a value in learning how to love to learn,” she said. “I want my girls to be lifelong learners, but I also don’t want them to take anything for granted.”
Mrs. Obama also hinted that she wants her girls to get it in their minds to go away for college. “I’ve been talking to my kids about college and getting them to think about how much fun it’s going to be and getting excited about the possibility of living on a campus with other young people,” she continued. “I don’t want them staying at home up under me.”
The conversation took a more lighthearted turn during Bow Wow’s “Bowl of Randomness”, when everything from fashion and dancing came up:
The first question: What’s one thing you miss about your life before becoming first lady?
FLOTUS: Being able to walk out the front door with no agents, walk down to CVS and buy some toothpaste.
Second question: On a scale of one to 10, how awesome was it when the president started singing, “Let’s Stay Together?”
FLOTUS: It was pretty awesome. He has a really good singing voice.
Third question: What’s your biggest fashion regret?
FLOTUS: Oh, that’s a tough one. I’m kind of always happy with what I am wearing. Sometimes I forget I’m the first lady so I’m like running around in shorts. I know the first time we went on a family vacation I had shorts on getting off of Air Force One and that created a huge stink.
Last question: Who’s a better dancer, you or the president?
FLOTUS: That’s easy. Me.
