Kerry Washington is basking in the spotlight. She’s fronting the cover of magazines, flexing her acting muscles as the Emmy-nominated star of the popular TV show, “Scandal,” and taking a comedic turn as the host of “Saturday Night Live.” Her personal life is blossoming just the same: she quietly married football player Nnamdi Asomugha and reportedly has a baby on the way. And she’s one of the most beautiful and stylish women in Hollywood. So why is she on the cover of Lucky Magazine’s December/January issue looking anything but flawless?
Kerry is unrecognizable on the cover, shot by the famously talented photog Patrick Demarchelier. Unfortunately, the final product is beneath what we’ve come to expect from Kerry and leads us to think her beauty was left in the wrong hands.
Here are three reasons we’re confused:
1. The Makeup
The one-note makeup look does nothing to highlight Kerry’s incredible wide eyes, full lips and high cheekbones.
2. The Hair
Thin and choppy, this hairstyle is a shocking departure from Kerry’s voluminous shoulder-length cut that always looks healthy, shiny and full whether she rocks it curly or straight.
3. The Fashion
The soft pink color picks up where the makeup left off in terms of washing Kerry out. The sheer short-sleeve dress is busy enough on its own, but it’s accessorized with a red scarf, which ages Kerry.
Lucky Magazine nailed it with their covers for the last three months since Eva Chen came on board as EIC so it’s frustrating to see them close 2013 and open 2014 with a lackluster cover. They now have the honor of being one of the few covers Kerry Washington, a naturally beautiful woman, doesn’t shine on.
