The internet is a buzz this week with a clip from ABC’s “What Would You Do?” hosted by John Quiones.
WWYD involves using everyday people to catch their reactions to situations involving actors. Typically, the people used in the segments are helpless or less powerful.
Last week’s episode featured a black actress playing a hairstylist at a Harlem barbershop. The hairstylist is flirting with the black guy who’s sitting in her chair, but then his white girlfriend comes into the scene.
The stylist immediately starts making fun of the relationship and makes rude comments about the white woman. Only one other person stood up for the white woman, ironically, it wasn’t her boyfriend, but another customer.
Take a look at the video:
Since the airing, the video has gone viral. There have been comments about “reverse racism” and how the hairstylist acted in typical black woman hating fashion.
But no one has discussed why the man didn’t stick up for his girlfriend, or why she didn’t stick up for herself? Sure, it was an act, but in real life, would this really have happened?
