A recent Giant Supermarket ad for their O Street, NW DC location had people riled up. The ad, which was targeting Howard University students in the area, featured a young white woman.

And now I’ll direct you to the Twitter outrage:

Giant extended an apology on their recent slip up:

“Unfortunately an incorrect stock photo was used in the ad and we apologize for this oversight,” Jamie Miller, spokesman for Giant, told me in an email. “We wish all Howard University students a successful semester.”

One has to wonder how did the white students at Howard feel?

And in honor of #ThrowbackThursday:

Imagine if Georgetown U’s students felt slighted because Giant published the picture of a black student, or a student wearing a yamaka?…Would Giant be at fault?

No, Giant did not need to apologize! As a Howard alumn, I continue to be embarrassed!
