Tia and Tamera Mowry Open Up about Racist Bullying

Try telling the Mowry twins that we are living in a “post racial” society. The two actresses, who normally give fun lighthearted interviews, broke down into tears on OWN’s Where Are They Now show while racist remarks they have endured.

The twins are themselves products of an interracial relationship and Tamera Housley Mowry, who is married to a white man and is the mother of one son,  couldn’t help but cry when she talked about the hateful comments people made online about her family.

“I’ve never experienced so much hate ever in my life. I get called, ‘White man’s whore,’ the new one, ‘Back in the day, you cost $300 but now you’re giving it to ‘em for free.’ Stuff that, me as a person, could never even fathom. I can’t even think of these words. It’s very hard for me to think of it because I’m a product of it. My mom is a beautiful black woman and my dad is an amazing white man. I grew up seeing a family,” she shared.

On top of those vile remarks, some online goons even went so far as to question her black womanhood. “This was the big one. They say, ‘Oh Tia’s a true black woman because she married a black man.’ Oh? I’m lesser of a black person because I married white man?,” said Tamera through tears.

Ever the loving sibling, Tia comforted her sister and revealed that some people have said ridiculous things to her about Tamera “getting it right” because she married a white man. Tia is married to a black man, fellow actor Cory Hardict. They have one son together.

Of course you know that we do not live in a post racial society, but are you surprised at the intensity of the vitriol spewed at interracial couples in the 21st century? Have you ever encountered such treatment as part of an interracial couple? On the flip side, have you ever voiced concerns about the validity or integrity of an interracial pairing?

If you are rich and famous and you still care so much about what strangers say about you, you just need to kill yourself. Because it can only get worse.

Tia and Tamera need to take a page from Gabourey Sidibe’s playbook on how to shut down social media critics, then keep it moving. That is all.

“I couldn’t agree with you more RJ and Nic! I rarely bat in eye when I see a black woman with a man of another race because there usually doesn’t appear to be some ulterior motive. Obviously, this is not always true but the friends I know that have found love with men of other races weren’t seeking out these men because they were white, Asian, etc it was usually some sort of fate and happenstance scenario. But the black men in my family ONLY sought after white, Mexican, Asian women and used disparaging remarks to describe black women in their age group and taught their kids nothing about the black experience/history. I have never witnessed the same sort of mentality and behavior from black women.”
