Every once in a while I get in a mood to recreate some of the food served at fast food restaurants, but I always add my own touch to their usually bland recipes.  And speaking of bland, I don’t know how people digest any chicken from Chick-fil-A.  One word. Tasteless.

A few weeks ago I figured I’d create my own version of their chicken biscuit and scoured the internet for some ideas. I scoffed at the suggestion a friend made and when they said to use canned biscuits. What? First of all, those biscuits are disgusting. Second of all, I’m afraid of the can exploding in my face.

To start off, get your chicken frying. Here’s a simple recipe I use:

2 large pieces of boneless chicken breast (cut into halves)

1 tsp salt

1 tsp freshly ground pepper

1 tsp garlic

1 tsp paprika

1 tsp onion powder

1 pinch ground cinnamon

1 1/2 cups of whole milk

3/4 stick of butter

11/2 cups all-purpose flour

Peanut oil

Typically I season my chicken over night and let it sit in the fridge.  After seasoning, I mix the milk and melted butter in a bowl and dip the chicken in. Once it’s coated, I think dip it into the flour and add a little extra seasoning on top.  I typically let my peanut oil heat up for about 10 min.  Then I fry until golden brown.

Biscuits

2 cups baking mix (Jiffy or Bisquick)     1/2 cup sour cream      1/2 cup 7-Up soda (any clear carbonated drink will work)      1/4 cup melted butter

Directions:

1 Preheat oven to 450 degrees.
2 Mix the sour cream into your biscuit mix.  You just want to make sure that each portion of your {wet} ingredient gets coated with the dry mix.
3 Stir in 1/2 cup 7 Up. The dough will be very soft, don’t worry.
4 Melt butter in a 9 inch square pan. I stick my pan and butter in the oven for a few minutes. Just a few though, the butter will burn, so watch it.
5 Scoop out the dough with a large spoon and place each scoop about 1/2 inch apart
6 Bake for 12-15 minutes or until brown.

Honey  Mustard Sauce- The easiest recipe comes from the Neely’s! Lovveeee them!

1/2 cup Dijon mustard
1/2 cup honey
2 tablespoons mayonnaise
1 tablespoons lemon juice
Salt and pepper

Mix all of the ingredients in a small bowl, and voila..you have honey mustard sauce.

Grab a biscuit, cut it open, slide in a piece of chicken, top it with honey  mustard sauce & lettuce..and there you have it…a better tasting biscuit than Chick-fil-A.

Here just a few comments from my friends:

Back in the day, I actually liked Chik- Fil-A chicken biscuits (used to work there) and adding cinnamon to enhance the other spices? Can’t wait to try it!

As a personal trainer, moderation is the key. I tried this recipe last night & limited myself to ONE. It was mouth watering delicious.

I dunno. The biscuit looks like it would be good by itself or with the chicken. But all that other stuff with it looks nasty. I just can’t imagine putting honey mustard on a biscuit with lettuce….

That biscuit looks disgusting. Looks like something the dog threw up
