Donald Sterling has been handed down an unprecedented punishment by NBA Commissioner Adam Silver. Sterling has been banded for life, after making racist comments that were recorded by his girlfriend, V. Stiviano. On top of the ban, Silver was fined $2.5 million, as well as a force sell of the Clippers.

Sterling will be prohibited from attending games, practices, league owner meetings, or participating in team or league business in any way. Silver said he would ask the other owners to exercise their authority to force a sale of the team—something that could set up a heated legal battle.

“I am banning Mr. Sterling for life,” Silver said at a news conference in New York.

Silver verified that it was indeed Sterling’s voice on the tape, after the league did their own investigation.

“The views expressed by Mr. Sterling are deeply offensive and harmful,” Silver added. That they came from an NBA owner only heightens the damage and my personal outrage. Sentiments of this kind are contrary to the principles of inclusion and respect that form the basis our diverse, multicultural and multiethnic league.”

The end.

Good on banning him, let him carry out his pregnancy somewhere else.

Get him in his wallet. Hit him up.

  • Honestly, I am SHOCKED but extremely pleased with the outcome of this matter. Don Sterling is a racist (whether he agrees with this characterization or not, his words and actions tell otherwise), thus he deserved this lifetime ban and should be forced to the sell the team.

Most of my shock comes from the fact that I know this outcome has now set an unbelievable precedent for the league. Any managers, owners, coaches or possibly players who are caught on audio/video tape saying/doing racist things will henceforth be sanctioned just as harshly. And to that I say, BRAVO to Adam Silver!
